So I don’t think Vlad’s weight loss carried through the whole off season. Dude is looking, how shall I say this, thick?

That being said that dinger he hit might be the hardest ball I’ve ever seen hit. Would be interesting to see the stat cast on that one.

Ya the Jays brass were all saying the right things with Vlad about his commitment to training over the break, he put in the work etc etc. But you’re right, he doesn’t look really that much different. Maybe I’m wrong.

Vlad still pounding the ball into the ground too, home run today aside.

Still overweight and still pounding grounders. Kind of concerning to be honest.

I think its inevitable Vlad becomes a 1B at some point.

With Groshans and Martinez on the way it is almost definitely inevitable, whether Vlad is in shape or not.

John Olerud's daughter Jordan, born with rare genetic disorder, dies at 19

Quote:
Jordan Olerud, the daughter of Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners All-Star John Olerud, has died at 19. She spent her life battling a rare chromosome disorder that required special attention.
Quote:
Jordan Olerud was born in August 2000 with a syndrome called tri-some 2p, 5p-, which signifies that she had an extra second chromosome and missing part of her fifth chromosome.

According to an interview with The Globe and Mail, doctors told Olerud that Jordan was the only person in the world known to have the condition. It left her with multiple birth defects that required constant care from her parents, even as John dealt with the time requirements of an MLB career:

At the age of 8, Jordan’s functions were described by her father as extremely limited:

IMO 90% of the time any team says X player is dedicating himself to offseason training/getting more fit/dropping weight etc etc it's baloney. A polite fiction for the benefit of beat writers and fans.

And yes... They should move Vlad to 1B sooner rather then later.

2 innings for Nate Pearson today. Gave up a couple walks but struck out 3 and didn't give up a hit, ERA still sits at 0.00. Merryweather still looks terrible. Shaw hit a dinger and drew a walk today which is significant because he had not looked good until that point. Who knows though, it's spring training, could mean something, could mean nothing!!! 19 days until opening day.

Shoemaker continues to look great over spring training coming off that ACL injury, which is encouraging because he looked so good in his 5 starts last season too.

Other than Pearson potentially coming up mid season or so, the Jays don't have any power arms in the rotation, but they do have some guys who can "pitch".

4-5 pitch arsenals and average to above average control of those pitches. Hopefully they can stay somewhat healthy.

Which is a complete 180 from what we had last season. We had Stroman for a bit, an absolutely terrible Sanchez and a pretty great 5th starter in Thornton and a host of hole fillers.

Thornton probably has that 5th spot locked up when the season begins.

It's spring training... so I go with means nothing.

Great pitchers can look awful in ST games but said great pitcher was working on say getting command of his change-up so he goes and throws change-ups when he should be throwing a slider/curve/fastball. Great hitter looks lost at the plate... but great hitter is working on getting more loft on his swing so he's focused on form over timing so he's late/early and pops-up/groundsout.

I don't really pay any attention to how guys look until they go to Montreal. By then guys should be done working on stuff.

Not sure if the Blue Jays should be raising the Panik level at this moment in time with all that's going on, but here we are.

Today would have been opening day - Red Sox at Blue Jays for an afternoon game.
https://jaysjournal.com/2020/03/26/b...versus-boston/
The disappointing aspect of it all is that Toronto was poised to break camp and head north healthy with no major injuries hampering their squad. The same could not be said for the New York Yankees or the Red Sox. It would have been a good opportunity to get an early jump on the division.

I watched 2 games from the '92 LCS against Oakland last night. Those were the days.

I forgot the chaos that NY and Boston were in the midst of. It would have been fun to start the season with Toronto and Tampa Bay surging ahead.

The globe and mail is doing a simulation series for determining which all time classic Blue Jays or Expos teams would win out in a tournament. They have nominated the the 1985 Blue Jays, the 1993 Blue Jays, 1981 Expos, & 1994 Expos. Blue jays teams go head to head in a series against each other and Expos teams do the same. Each team's Champion faces each other in the ultimate Canadian World Series.

Right now the '93 Jays are up 1-0 in the series against the '85 Jays. Next up is game 1 between the Expos teams!
