But expect more as his agents try and raise his profile going into free agency.

I still think the Oilers offer sheet him with a 2 year offer at $4Mill per year, which is a 2nd round pick compensation.
He's worth $4M on a longer term deal that buys some free agency, he's not far off from being worth $4M as is. I'd happily snag Bennett to 6 years at $4M per.

Boone Jenner, coming off 32 points got a 4 year deal at 3.75M per.

I like what Bennett has turned into. And though remote, there's still the chance he finds the offensive game he had in juniors which would be amazing.

Edmonton won't have the cap room to do much of anything.

But you just make a polite phone call.

"Hey Edmonton, if you want to offer sheet Bennett, enjoy having a guy like Bouchard for the next three years, because we're putting you on notice that we will retaliate. Huh, what's that Keith? Are you crying? Give me your lunch money"

One of my favorite Flames...happy to hear that Sam has found that comfort level when it comes to his role and that his mom is doing better.

I can't imagine how difficult it must have been for Sam Bennett to know his mom was sick while keeping his focus and continuing to play hockey. A lot of people/fans had a lot to say about Sam Bennett's performance on the ice. Good lesson! Helps to remember players are people too and there may be other mitigating in factors in how they are playing.

I always attributed the drop in play to Gulutzan taking Sam off the PP in late Dec 2016 but it's possible the off-ice stuff also affected his play on the ice.
I was 37 when my mom was diagnosed with cancer, it was on my mind night and day and my worked suffered because of it, now imagine being 20 years old and your mom is fighting this 3500 km away.

He has to sign the offer sheet. He has to know that going to that putrid organization will destroy his nhl career. If that's what the oilers are offering, I'm confident we can get him for way less to stick with a solid core long term.

The oilers are the organization players choose before deciding on leaving for another league.

Sometimes, as in the case of Roman Horak, they'd rather go to Russia.

I think a good comparable for Bennett is Gabriel Landeskog. That's the potential level I think he gets to in a year or so.

Before this year Landeskog was good for a reliable 50-60 points, but he played with leadership and a lot of snarl/competitiveness without being a fighter. Sam adds that x-factor when called upon, and his offensive game is growing enough that I could see him around 50 points a season.

That being said, at best he would be our 5th best offensive forward on this team, and that's debatable with Backlund on the team. But like the article says, he brings some factors that don't show up on the stat sheet. I hate the word "intangibles" because it gets overused so often, but Bennett certainly has those intangibles that winning teams need.

So far so good.
Looking forward for his Selke Trophy.

Anyway I like what he brings to the lineup. The demand on him will be always huge though because of how high he was picked.

Not sure why you think sam would want to sign that.

Bennett would play wing for McDavid, his childhood buddy, for one year before he can renegotiate a long term deal as mcdavid's wing

He's seen what a clownfest it is, not convinced that a "childhood buddy" thing is going to compel him to sign.

I've always thought it was an overblown story anyway. It's not like they were on the same team in junior. You have to go way back to find when they ever played together. McDavid and Strome were clearly more close. To me it was always a "how do we make a McDavid/Bennett connection" attempt by writers. I mean, the facts are true, but I doubt they are vacationing together or do much other than a text from time to time.

I think disappointment because he's not going to be an elite point producer was always warranted and understood.

It was the crew that wanted him traded because he was a fourth line player and replaceable that missed the mark.

I'm glad he's continued to expand that role and become an important part of this team. Still hoping more recent production becomes a trend and he inches closer to 40 points this year, but even without that his production looks to have at least found it's way back to his rookie season.

And with the playoffs coming ...

Monahan could take a page out of Bennetts book for how to play with some emotion.

Monahan is who he is.

He has the production that suggests he doesn't have to re-invent himself into another role. He's the 9th highest scoring center in the league.

Playing with your buddy is fun, but beating him is more fun. I highly doubt Bennett even considers an offer sheet from Edmonton. That's like getting hit on by the ugliest person in the bar, while you're there with a date that's hot. Thanks, but no thanks.

Bennett could take more than one page out of Monahan's book for how to score.

I would like to see Bennett work on his shot and his release. I think with a quicker release, he instantly becomes a 2nd line talent.
