I jumped for joy when I heard the original trade announcement. To me it was an obvious Flames win...just the potential alone was exciting, and just a matter of time of when the true impression of the trade win would be realized. It happened quickly, couldn’t be happier! I think some fans really overvalued Hamilton. We were all excited to get him and we all wanted him to be a Pronger for us when we got him, but he certainly isn’t and will never be that player. He will be a good offensive Defensemen in this league for years to come, however.
Contract year, play-off series Ferland for a first is a no-brainer.
The dude was the deciding factor in this franchise’s only series win in 15 years, playing with fourth line quality players. Motivated Ferland is insanely hard for other teams to handle.
I just think he goes for more than a first

^^There are no fights in the playoffs though, its certainly entertaining but has little or no value. With all the concussion damage and the fact that he is rental, he goes for a 2nd and and maybe a 4th as a throw in. Certainly way less than Kane last year who went for a conditional 1st(if he signed in SJ), 4th and a prospect. Carolina will keep him for the playoff run and then try to sign him.
We don’t have a deterrent like Ferland in the line-up outside of Bennett I would say, and he lays the body but his concussion issues do give me concern and I wouldn’t like to spend a crazy amount on him.
Frolik + 2nd would be the max I would want to go to bring Ferly back.
^^Yea, a blast from the past, the good old days. Iginla I'd take in 2004-2009, Ferland in 2019, no. I don't think Iggy even had a fight with Boston or Pittsburg in the playoffs after he left the Flames.
Ferland wasn't a deterrent IMO. His hits against Vancouver were purposeful and dislodged pucks. And they riled up Vancouver (to its detriment), the opposite of a deterrent.

Sadly his injury history kinda started in that series with a big hit from I want to say Getzlaf?? Was unfortunate because every one of those games outside of 1 were generally pretty close scoring. I think Ferland could be a good addition in a role where he isn’t being leaned on as ‘the’ guy to play with Johnny and Mony like he was under Gulutzan.
He would definitely be an upgrade on Frolik there is no doubt and it would also provide us some cap relief and options for the off-season. You also have a player in Ferland who does have some chemistry - though not at the level of a Hudler or a now Lindholm - but that’s a valuable thing to have in a long playoffs.
If Ferland was a right handed shot he would be much more appealing since the LW is really crowded. I like the idea of Simmonds, he is struggling this year so maybe we can get him for cheaper than Ferland and he is a right hand shot too.
