Scrivens??? I thought the Oilers destroyed his confidence as a goaltender.

This thought has kind of been brewing in me for a bit, but it was reaffirmed in Willie's speech.

The guys chosen all have a hard luck story, all being told no or turned down at some point in their careers. Hearing the handful of stories of guys like Christian Thomas being told by his dad, or Wojtek Wolski crying when he was told, or even Mason Raymond just wanting it, or even knowing Chris Lee's story of perseverance. These are amazing stories, and actually make me want to watch and cheer for them more.

Yes, they aren't the best players in the world for Canada, but given the circumstances, they had to fight tooth and nail to make this team, and in my opinion, is a great team team to get behind.

Nothing like spending a few years in Russia to feel better about yourself again after going through the MacTavish/Eakins wringer.

Tons of Calgary ties on this team.

Rene Bourque (Calgary, 2008-2011)
Mason Raymond (Calgary, 2014-2016, Stockton, 2016)
Linden Vey (Calgary, 2016, Stockton, 2016-17)
Kevin Poulin (Stockton, 2015-16)
Cody Goloubef (Stockton, 2017-18)

not to mention

Brandon Kozun (Hitmen, 2006-2010)

Women's tournament will be far more meaningful considering it's best on best

Funny I went to junior high school with him. We played on the same Volleyball team and I even beat him in a 100m race now. He’s always been a pretty athletic guy. Good for him, hope he does well.

Would love to see Willie D and Team Canada win a gold medal in South Korea, best of luck to the boys.

If you're going to go 'sideshow' then go full sideshow.

Get Gretz and Mess out there! Whats Paul Coffey up to these days? Are they collecting CPP yet?

Matt Robinson is a Calgary boy, Karl Stollery is from Camrose, Robbie Klinkhammer from Lethbridge, Brandon Kozun from Calgary as well.

Thats a TON of local content and IMO should help locals get invested,

As a side note I read that this club has over 5500 NHL games of experience.

You may not know a bunch of these guys folks, doesn't mean they arent really good players.

If you like the Spengler Cup (and the atmosphere at the Valliant Arena in Davos does bring a lot to the games), then you should still enjoy this Olympic tourney as the hockey will be of the same caliber.

I get that people like to beat their chests with Canadian Hockey pride and winning a gold medal means something to them.

The reality is that the quality of this hockey is going to be as bad, if not worse, as a team full of Brouwer, Stajan, and Lazars.

I suppose it's fitting that games will be at early hours, because putting this as prime time material would be a tough pill to swallow.

It'll be fun to cheer for a bunch of underdogs. And these guys will fit in better with the amateur ethos and the environment at the Olympic Village than a bunch of mega-millionaires jetting in for 10 days.

I like best on best. Sue me. Not gonna watch it.

I would also not watch third rate speed skaters if somehow the best were not able to compete either.

The quality of play will be much higher than the women's Olympic hockey games, and millions tune it to watch that.

Some pretty big names on this team. Marc-Andre Gragnani is a pretty big name, for example.
