Going into last off-season, Ryan was my #1 target for our bottom 6.

Man has he ever lived up to expectations.

February and January are the grindstone months of the NHL, Ryan has been a stabilizing force over that period. Its good to see some 4th line contribution down the stretch.

I was never a fan of this signing but he has proven me wrong over the past couple months. He has been extremely solid in 2019

Bump. Can't say enough about just how good a player the Flames have in Derek Ryan. Seemingly one of the most dependable guys on the team. Really beginning to step up offensively, too. He's gonna be a big part of the Flames' success this year.

I hated him the first 30 games or so...

Then he started playing like I was expecting and he changed my opinion.

I now think he is a big part of our team as one of our key bottom 6 players.

He's a valuable C to have on your team no doubt.

He kind of reminds me of Stephane Yelle, maybe not quite as gritty.

Ryan is such an upgrade on the bottom 6 centers from last season. I'm glad we have him.

He kind of reminds me of Stajan. But he seems t be getting some breaks lately and making me some good plays. Seems his confidence is up. His performance lately justifies BP’s love

I had the biggest grin on my face looking at the smile he had on his face after scoring that goal from Johny. He stood beside the net for a couple of extra seconds as if he couldn't believe that is how you can score goals playing with Gaudreau. Just skate with your stick down and when you least expect it, it will hit your stick and go in the net.

I thought the Ryan signing was ok... maybe a tad high, but it made sense as someone needed to replace Stajan...

Ryan has really been better than i thought to be honest...great in the faceoff circle as expected, but really has shown some good offensive touch and added some nice speed to the bottom six.

looking like a great signing now

I've come around on him and he's grown on me (like molds, spores, and fungus). He's a good option to have out there and always seems to find a spot to make a good play. I was wrong on him and happy to admit it.

Nor I; I thought this was another Raymond/Brouwer signing destined for a buyout. Derek Ryan has been a productive bottom-6 centre who hasn't made boneheaded decisions that cost the team. He skates well, he's good at faceoffs.

He shouldn't be on the powerplay, but he also shouldn't be bought out, and I'll make that trade.

"Derek Ryan's over use!" Is one of my favorite things to tell at the TV now while watching games.

Makes me laugh every time.

Just like back when you had to defend the guy in this topic, he remains elite at suppression.

He's ranked ...

23rd in CA/60
17th in SCA/60
39th in HDCA/60

And that's out of 368 forward that have played 400 minutes this year.

His production isn't down as much as I was guessing despite being on the fourth line as well.

I don't even know if I'd call Ryan a fourth-liner at this point... he's playing more at 5v5 than Jankowski is. I think Ryan is what he is... a solid top-nine forward.

Also, how many guys are the Flames going to have finish with 10+ goals or 30+ points this year? Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Giordano, and Backlund have obviously made it already, but it looks like almost every forward has a shot.

Brodie - needs 2 more goals for 10, already has 31 points
Hanifin - needs 5 more goals for 10, one more point for 30
Ryan - needs 1 more goal for 10, 2 more points for 30
Frolik - has 13 goals already, needs 3 more points for 30
Bennett - has 12 goals already, needs 4 more points for 30
Jankowski - has 10 goals already, needs 5 more points for 30
Hathaway - needs 3 more goals for 10
Hamonic - needs 3 more goals for 10
Czarnik - needs 4 more goals for 10
Neal - needs 5 more goals for 10

That's depth.
