F***. I hate the shoulder flags so god damn much. I see AC's awesome Jagr teaser and all I can think is "F*** that looks bad." And it's because the jersey looks bad. We have a bad jersey. They are not worthy of Jagr.
He should negotiate that we have to wear retros full time.

Just thought about the same thing yesterday. Even if the Flames sign Jagr, it's too bad it had to be the one year they aren't wearing the retros because of the change over to Adidas. Looks like I won't be buying a jersey if Jagr is signed here. Stupid shoulder flags!
On second thought, perhaps he makes the All-Star team and wears a jersey with a red flaming C on the shoulder? I would probably buy that.
This was the question that was dogging the Ferland negotiations. I imagine that it also was the holdup here with Sam as well, that neither side would budge on it. So they settled on the parts of the contract they could agree on.
Now there's definitely a bit of a cap squeeze on the horizon in 2 years with Ferland, Tkachuk and Bennett all due for big raises if things go well, but there are still options we could exercise to get some more space if needed:
Buyout last year of Brouwer (saves 3 mill)
Trade Stone (saves 3.5mill - ELC of whoever takes his place)
Replace a departing Smith with Parsons (dirt cheap starting goalie)
Also an option to move Hamonic or Brodie with one year remaining if Valimaki/Anderson or Kylington ready for top 4 role in two years. Can get that lost 1st rounder back in such a deal.
It all comes down to whether our stacked D and G prospects step up.
If they manage to avoid bonus overages carrying over, other buyouts and get a bump from salary cap increases by then we should be okay. We know that BT has already forecasted how to keep his core over the next 5 years of Gaudreau's contract. I bet he has a whiteboard mapping it all out that the organization looks at regularly. These moves are calculated carefully for a longer term horizon.
If the Flames can get Jagr signed and he ends up as a 40point winger, the Flames have to be considered a cup contender at this point.
The only question mark for the team if they can get a scoring winger will be Goaltending, and I am optimistic the overwhelming defense provided by the additions of hamonic and stone will solidify that.
I feel like I've been waiting a long time to be this optimistic about the immediate potential of the team.

My immediate first thought as well. It's like the blue is burning a hole in that picture. Goddamn that is tacky looking.
