In Beijing back in 2000 they had port-o-potties inside the underpass tunnels. They smelled about how you would imagine a wonderful idea like that to smell.
Now it all makes sense. There's always the intersection bum who goes car to car at the lights there, and I never understood why they bothered there. Makes sense the crack tunnel was right beneath them.
I used to work a block away from there. The tunnel was quite clean every time I used it. It just smelled like urine.
The indigent population actually hung out at the corner of the strip mall where Keith's Deli is. There's a little alcove by the stairs that gets residual heat.

I used to work near there too. Now I know why there were always smashed bottles on that stairwell.

Edit: Yes, Woodward auto centres, as in this clip, you can see this crew hanging out in the Tradewinds parking lot across from Chinook and Woodward’s sign in the back. Calgary Honda to the north.
At 2 seconds, what's the establishing shot here? I can't place it in Calgary. I see a Capitol Theatre here, I thought that became Flames central but then the road is way too wide.
not guard it, just check in it.. maybe a personwould watch a camera from time to time and then go there if there's a problem.
garbage should not be accumulating over weeks and months.
or else we can't build tunnels.
Its not cost effective to monitor, inspect, and maintain a tiny underground tunnel from 40 years ago that very few people actually use.
Because it's out of sight, it's easy for it to go out of control and that's why crackheads and homeless use it as well to shoot up, piss, etc. because they know nobody will see them.
Now there there is the new fancy $13 million dollar enclosed and heated overpass, that removes the need for the underground tunnel completely because mall walkers are going to be going back and forth all the time so it will be safe and less likely to be abused since everybody will see if you do anything.

Flames Central was in The Palace. Google says that the Capitol was at 230 8th Ave SW (which is where Scotia Centre is now), but that doesn't fit with the video.
Looking into it a little more, I think they may have screwed up and that's actually Edmonton. There was an old Capitol Theatre in Edmonton and its location looks more like the area in the video. It was on Jasper Ave, which is quite wide.
Also, in any old photos or video I've ever seen, Calgary didn't have red buses in the past, only blue or green. It looks like Edmonton did have red buses at that time.
Here's the Google street view of where the Capitol Theatre in Edmonton was and I'm pretty sure it's the same place (https://goo.gl/maps/yMgRPzBxn8r). There's even still a Scotiabank on the same corner (just in a different building), and a few of the old buildings appear to still be there.

My favourite crack tunnel is the one going west from Shaw millenium. Last time I was in there there was no people but piles and piles of soiled clothing. It was like the homeless molted into their summer bodies.
I can't tell how facetious you're being - where exactly is this tunnel?
Or are you talking about the West LRT up near Westbrook?
There are 4 tunnels under 14th street around Nose Hill Park,as well as 3 or 4 through Confederation park as well. Although I wouldn't consider any of them even close to a Crack Tunnel.

Piss poor design for a crack tunnel. No privacy at all. You can see clear through, plus the wind will keep blowing out your lighter. It is a sad day for Calgary crack tunnels.
