If I remember correctly, the chatter was that he might retire after his first year once he was traded.
He is having a good season, so far being on pace for 27 goals.

I’d take a 2B center for Derek Ryan money all day long
I know that upsets the old = bad crowd but Elite players still have gas in the tank at later and later ages.

You think an overpayment for a player on a 60 point pace over 82 games?
That's the type of secondary scoring the Flames could use, especially at that cost.

The fact that he's 37 should not take away from his ability to produce, which its not in question at the moment. He's doing just fine.

Despite his age, this isnt insane.
The guy is a good fit there and he's putting up the numbers.

He has a 59 point pace and a long track record.
Seems like a fine deal even if he regresses.
So much for retirement.

I didn't watch enough of him to gauge him as a player. It seemed like he was on his way out of the league before getting traded to Pittsburgh and going on a tear. That said it seems as though the penguins feel he's a good fit for them. His age certainly makes it seem like a risky contract, which he might finish on LTIRetirement.

How many people are left from that elite 03 class?
Carter
Fleury
Suter
Parise
Staal reportedly coming back post Olympics.
That is all I can think of off the top of my head.

Dude has 26 points in 36 games. He also had 30 in 54 last year, and 5 points in 6 playoff games.
He's certainly not showing any signs of slowing down. 2 years isn't a term I'd be worried about.
Heck, Joe Pavelski has 48 points in 40 games this year as a 37 year old - would you not sign him to a 2 year deal?

We couldn’t even get a 30 year old to produce what he does, we aren’t ones to talk. Take this to the ‘Brad Treliving needs to go’, thread.

The deal isn’t for this year. It’s for next year and the year after. And this year is a bit of a blip. He’s scored more like 30 in the previous years. And I suspect he likes it there. I would have done one year. Maybe.
They also need to sign Rust, which way more important, Letang, Kapanen, Malkin (or replace him if he retires), and their whole bottom six.

If Staal is coming back post-Olympics, I'd like Tre to make an offer.
