There has been chatter of whether the jets struggles this year would cost Maurice his job.

Not sure if this is related, as coaches typically wait to just get canned so that they still earn the $ owed....

Have to think it's another job if its not health/scandal related.

Agree with this, surely it means he found a different job?

He'd rather cover the team than coach the team.

Maybe Tocchet is headed to Philly and Maurice is headed to TNT? He's a great talker.

This will be my inverse rationale as I lose my hair and eventually shave my head.

Hair… I quit.
Me… No… You’re fired!

It's the right move as they stink this season. Kind of an indictment on the GM really that the coach knew this long before the GM. They just don't play up to their level of talent as they have been similar to the Flames over the years before Darryl in that the sum was almost always less than the parts. I expect the Jets will be better going forward. That was just way too long spinning their wheels under the same coach year after year.

Wow, you don't see resignations very often. I think Toonage may be correct, Maurice may see the writing on the wall........the team isn't going a lot further with him, he'll get canned sooner or later, step aside before they make you step aside.

Just glad it's not for health/family reasons.

I wonder if there is another opportunity that is lining up that he thinks is a better spot? New Jersey could be looking for a new coach and that team has young talent, cap space and is close to Manhattan. Big upgrade on Winnipeg who he has taken as far as he can.

It's very refreshing actually and he deserves praise for not milking the organization, knowing the GM was loyal to a fault.
