Havelid is a goalie from Sweden expected to go in the 2nd round. He has a twin who plays RW also expected to go in the 2nd round.

Canucks will probably draft both.

they will make one of the twins their captain, and it will be the goalie

I don’t expect any of these young players to be at McDavid’s level in terms of offensive production but Lamberts skating and his style of play is very similar to McDavid’s. If anyone watches his highlights, you’ll see what I mean. If he translates that skill to the pro game I think he’ll be a superstar for sure. He could end up being one of the best players at making skilled moves with the puck at top speed in the league along with McDavid and McKinnon.

Obviously he’ll have a long way to go and a slow start to his draft year could be an indication of otherwise. Though I always find it hard to assess production of young players in Liiga. Some guys produce well and it doesn’t translate to the pro game while others don’t produce very well just because they’re playing against men at a young age. Then a year later they are showing well in the NHL simply because they have a year of growth/development/experience.

Hmmmm, goalie and forward swedish twins? Sound like the next Henrik and Joel Lundqvist.

I'm wondering if the CHL has suddenly dropped in scoring.

Shane Wright has only 19 points in 16 games. That would be one of the least productive seasons for a #1 pick that we've seen since at least 1990 (for CHL forwards). Conor Geekie, the next highest ranked CHL forward, has only 23 points in 20 games.

Conor Bedard had 28 points in 15 games last year. He only has 13 points in 17 games this year.

If I'm not mistaken, all of the Flames' CHL prospects except Ciona, Kerins and Beck have lower production than last year. Beck didn't play last year.

I think everyone might have to be extra patient with prospects from the last two years and from this upcoming draft… there were lots of players that missed a huge chunk of extremely important years for developing their game because of leagues shutting down or being cut short due to COVID. I think many players may take longer to develop into NHLers than prospects from previous years. I think Zary could fall in that group but he did look great in AHL last year during his brief stint. Hopefully he finds his game quickly coming off of an unlucky injury at camp.

Wright and Bedard are such highly regarded prospects it’s surprising to see them under-producing relative to top ranked players of the past.

Went to a Kingston Frontenac game here in the gta.

Wright was terrible. Only time he was noticeable was some terrible giveaways in his own zone. Kingston scored 5 goals, he had zero points and only got on the game sheet due to a penalty.

If I wasn't there watching for him specifically, I wouldn't have guessed he's even a real draft prospect...

Most nhl elite forwards coming out of the NHL averaged about 2 points per game in their second ohl seasons. Wright's struggles seems odd.

I've had the chance to catch a few Warriors game and Denton Mateychuk looks unreal!
Mateychuk is a very good skater and seems to always make the right play. I could actually see this kid rising to the top 15 before season end.

In Wright's D-2 season, when he was 15, he put up a PPG of 1.14. Now, in his Draft year, his PPG is 1.22. You're right, he should be dominating a lot more. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but scoring seems to be down a lot in the CHL, as 1qqaaz stated above.

Prediction:

Slafkovsky will end up being a better pick than Wright

He certainly is an exciting prospect. 6'4"225lbs, skates well for his size, plays with both skill and snarl. 18pts in 11 games in Finlands U20 Liiga. Absolute beast.

I still like geekie a lot. Savoie too.

Wrights struggles are puzzling. He looked like dynamite at u18 imo. Though the missed season might be a much bigger deal than initially speculated.

I watch Connor frequently being here in Regina.

He is unreal when he has the puck, but I find the games I've watched this season, he has been cheating a lot, and his play without the puck is disengaged. I would venture to say, he plays like he almost expects the play to come to him, and doesn't go after it as he used to.

He also tends to shy away from physicality too, which might be understandable given he is slightly smaller. Next year hopefully he finds that next gear.

Bedard's play is concerning, team is bad, he's bad and a defenseman is leading the team in scoring. Not a good sign.

The team is utterly terrible. They fired the coach, but they really need to build a system, and also hold a guy like Bedard accountable.

Hoping for better things in the new year with him. But his play this year, has made it am easier pill to swallow I didn't buy seasons tickets this year

Only if Treliving and the Flames draft them.
