Thankfully it is a modern look, not just "make it a desert red brick/brown" BS
Definitely Vegas vibes with Meruello here

How can we let the Coyotes have a better looking arena design than us?

Seems somewhat similar in concept to the proposal pictures of the new Calgary arena.

The arena itself has a similar vibe to the Calgary renderings

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

looks pretty similar to Calgary to me, but I am sure there will be a parade of posts explaining why this is awesome and the Calgary one is crap.

this seems like a "flames are terrible no matter what they do" kinda post
I don't see how this is "better"

Yep, reminds me of Vegas which is the 2nd best arena I've been to.
LA is still best for me.

I think this proposal highlights what some of the worst elements of the calgary proposal are, in spite of not looking that much different as many have mentioned.
1. It looks like it will have much more active street presence on all sides.
2. the Event space/ plaza outside is much larger and more dynamic.

Lol the simulated selfie photo.
This program is eerily accurate, I don't like that.
I do like the shape of it better than ours but they're both in the same boat in many aspects.
Guess we're going cookie cutter and no longer being creative with these things now.

I mean when the Tempe Entertainment District comes with a price tag of $1.7 billion USD and more land involved, you will probably get better integration

It boils down to this one being designed for more of an active/walking experience while the flames version still seems like it's prioritizing cars.

No doubt the larger development will be more integrated- for the record we might have still had that integration had CMLC been the project manager but I have heard mixed reviews of that groups abilities.
The two items I mentioned though do not require 1.2 billion in additional spending. They just require less focus on cars.

Yeah exactly.
Which makes no sense from a Calgary standpoint because those roads will have no use besides when an event is going on. No one will use them.
Why not expand the plaza aspect, even enclose it with businesses on the other side, and prioritize foot traffic.
If there's something I've taken away from the pandemic that is positive, it's that downtown banff and canmore got way better when they made their main drags pedestrian areas and no longer had traffic run through them. They need to employ the same approach with this arena.
It gives it much more of a meet and greet vibe when you have an open area without cars whizzing past you and traffic noise dominating.

The entrance to the current arena
Nothing wrong with the Arena once you get there

Have you guys looked at the Rivers District Master Plan?
It's worth looking up. Feels like a lot of the complaints are pretty narrow in scope considering how the arena fits into the entire cultural district. Shopping, festival/event streets, entertainment, restaurants, etc.
If you look at the plan and what they're doing with the area, it becomes pretty obvious that "cars whizzing past" and a lack of "active street presence" aren't relevant.
You're looking at it based on a limited scope of the arena being the only driver for the area. The city is planning otherwise.

You're 100% right, it's great but in the wrong location for 85% of the fanbase and corporate sponsors.

They only want to complain because the Flames suck, everything they touch sucks and they weren't consulted. Typical day.

I don't disagree, but a lack of parking is always a complaint about Calgary commenters on arena plans (I don't agree but there it is).
