Default Monitor Repair...Parts ???

I know most consumer electronics are thro-away item these days.

But I would like to try and repair this one.

Looking for a website where I can price / quote a replacement power supply and driver board for a 27" LED Monitor.

Sansui ES-27X3AL.

New versions are only 140 ish on amazon so pricing will be a factor once I know where to look.

Thanks.

Sansui is a dead brand that is badge engineered to slap onto random cheap Asian display panels. I don't think you are going to have any luck unless you find someone with a dead or for parts one on ebay.

O_o

Just buy new or see of your credit card has warranty. The odds maybe you can cannibalize parts from a monitor from an electronics donation bin or location seem slim. Other options cost too much.

Does the monitor has sentimental value or something?

No sentimental value...

I'm just a tinkerer...Have been since high school.

Was the main reason I went into engineering.

If it were me I'd open it up and try to find a part number, then search Aliexpress.

That is the plan...Just didn't want to have to wait 6 weeks for shipping from China.

I think it's awesome when people try fix stuff instead of throwing it out. Plus it's satisfying to make the broken thing worky again!

Well, sure. If can fix broken thing without additional electronic parts or cheap parts, I do that too. OP's basic idea makes sense.

I'm just saying that if it's a $140 brand new for that monitor (which also perhaps has some warranty or recourse left if there's an issue) and repair is PSU/driver board... it doesn't really seem like it makes sense to me to try and buy the parts to do it. $200+ monitor, I don't bat an eye. That's why I asked if there was sentimental value.

Cannibalizing an old monitor for parts type of repair, sure. But cost of purchasing power supply and driver board vs buying new at $130-140 IMO seems like it's not the best value proposition. That's why I wondered. Buying open box or used and using that instead seems to make more sense to me. I was just curious on the logic of repairing something so inexpensive.

If you don't mind me asking, how much are the parts that it would make it worth it vs paying $140 for new? Is there no way to pay a little extra to expedite? I've gotten screen repair parts on Aliexpress within a week before.

I'm assuming the parts are going to be like $60-80 shipped and as Hack & Lube mentioned, the brand is basically dead. So that's why I was confused why you'd do that rather than buy new or buy used with similar specs. As mentioned, looking for other old monitors and cannibalizing/scavenging parts makes sense to me. Putting new parts into that calibre of screen was what I was curious about.

Tinkering makes sense though. You won't cry a river that you wasted some type of potential if you end up failing and breaking it further.

Actually thought my asus vg278 was on fire today. I could smell something? And it was flashing white. Google says to replace the power supply so I've ordered one but am not really confident here!

if you did want to fix it, you could try to identify if there is a failed component specifically on the driver board, and then get the replacement part from Digikey. The PSU itself should be interchangable with any that meets the same specs.

I agree but these days so many people are fighting to get the junk and only a fraction have the knowledge or tools to fix something so they open it up, can't see the easy fix and then toss it, or maybe i'm just bitter that I miss out on so many free items I would just like to fix.

There will be a price point where I say fata it and move on.

My searches are coming up empty for the board.

Cant find a schematic to determine the part no of the failed component. Plus I dont have the equipment for wave soldering. (This thing is pretty small) so swapping the entire board will probably be the only option.

Are you able to identify whether that part was in smaller monitors of the same or other brands and keep an eye out for something cheap enough to scavenge for parts?

Searching now...

I have reached out to a few online sources but no response yet.

Might put it aside until I can scrounge around an electronic recycler on a warmer day.

https://www.digikey.ca

A buddy of mine uses this site to buy parts when he tinkers with electronics.

So on a whim, I emailed the manufacturer about the issue I was having,

Yesterday a brand new replacement shows up on my door step.

Waiting now to see if they want the old one back. If not...the search continues.
