I don't mind either guy as a physical comparable. Their issues were all on competitiveness, hockey sense, etc. Really, they both should have been decent middle sixers.

I may be wrong but Ruzicka doesn’t need to be protected in expansion draft? With 15 or so games left maybe a reason why he gets call over Phillips? Size too and sutter as coach but it would be nice to see him play well and not risk losing him too

Indeed. Not to side track but another larger issue is on asset management. The organization should have realized what Jankowski is and been more decisive about making the most out of his value peaks, like Boston did with Colborne and Toronto too, to a lesser extent.

I think he's more engaged than Janko and Colbourne. Both are pretty good comparables style wise but I think Ruzicka is ahead of where both were at the same age. Hopefully he shows better at the NHL level!

I was going to say he's like a poor man's Joe Thornton. Obviously not expecting him to put up 100 points but yeah I think his style is that.

I’d be happy with a Peplinski.

Does he have the beard game to be compared to Joe? Me thinks not.

He has a better shot than either of those guys. He also has a better defensive play. I think if he makes all his checks and becomes stronger he will have more success. He may never be a crazy hitter, but learning to use his body to protect the puck should make him effective

I'll say this... if you liked Rittich's personality? You'll love Adam Ruzicka.

I think guys like Jankowski and Colbourne had potential to do something and just never made that next step. Hopefully, Ruzicka can. In particular, I think Jankowski was coached very poorly

Well, his biggest issue is with his lack of consistency in his effort. Calgary has a pretty good coach at fixing such an issue.

Also the NHL tends to be a factor in motivating.

So he's not really replacing Bennett but rather Rittich in the room.

Flames'll play him too. Consider it an early audition for a full time spot next season. He's not called up to sit as a healthy scratch or practice with the taxi squad. The team has vets like Robinson and Froese that can do that.
