I actually like Howden-I don't think he's been a bust, he's always been seen as more of a defensive, bottom sixer, even back to his draft. He's big, physical, and can skate-I wouldn't mind adding him....

DeAngelo rejected the Rangers' proposal to mutually terminate his contract and will wait to become a UFA after a buy-out in the offseason.

However, good news for everyone's favorite violent bigot...the Montreal Canadiens are looking to increase facepalms around the league and is reportedly very interested in signing this jackass.

Putting aside the fact the guy seems like a terrible person, it would have been a bad financial decision for him to have accepted a termination instead of a buyout, given how much money he was owed. At 25, he probably isn't desperate to win a Cup yet and any team signing him wouldn't be offering close to what he gets in a buyout.

It's really too bad this guy is such a prick, because he is a really good player that would help any team otherwise. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in Edmonton actually.

From a financial perspective, there's no incentive for him to terminate that contract, other than to do the Rangers a favour. Make them buy him out, and then go UFA in the summer. Why would he agree to mutually terminate the contract prematurely unless he already had another contract waiting for him to sign?

He went with the financial prerogative over playing immediately, which is absolutely his right. And he probably wants to stick it back to the Rangers.

Sounds like Montreal was waiting in the wings with a contract, so he would be getting paid to play right now, although likely at a lower dollar figure.

Weber, Gallagher, Petry, Staal/Perry seem like a decent core who would put him in his place.

PIT, NYI (mostly Lou and Trotz), and maybe BOS might have the cultures to handle him. I've also though SJS should just inject more toxicity into their room because it's such a mess it might somehow help.

Hopefully he is KHL bound, though.

I could see Chicago being interested, as they could certainly use a PP quarterback, have the cap space, and have some veteran leadership that might handle him.

DeAngelo rejected Montreal's offer according to the NY Post.
https://nypost.com/2021/04/13/ranger...site%20buttons

Montreal's contract offer dollar amount would have been equivalent to the money lost from the contract termination (the amount still owed on the season + the buyout amount in the summer) but would have been a multi year contract.

DeAngelo thinks he will get the buyout money plus another contract which is why he rejected it.

Maybe it's his mandate but he seems to be on a mission to win at any cost. Interesting this is an organization that thought Suban was too much of a personality for that locker room yet a cancer like this guy would fit in just fine.

I find it funny that a far right supporter would end up in Quebec, especially Montreal. Not that they don't have their share of race issues there, but the rest of the RW mind-set - nah.

Quebec's current government is right wing.

Not relative to Deangelo. While it's the most right of the parties in Quebec, like most Quebec nationalistic parties it's hard to pigeonhole the CAQ. It has a few ex separatists, a few anti-Muslim types, but it's not particularly economically far right - it's more like a Liberal party in that respect.

I don't think deangelos politics are based on his economic views though

What - you don't think DeAngelo is a deep thinker?

Agreed, I would classify them as centrist/populist...but definitely hard to classify as right or left - it depends on the subject

Immigration - right
Language - right
Environment - left
Economic - centrist
etc.

On that note, De Angelo would not be well accepted in Montreal
