One reason is for when jackhats don't know how to drive and hit you. Insurance claims and police reports are a lot easier when you have video evidence.

The V1000GS arrived on Friday, 4 weeks to the day after I ordered it.
They must have sent it surface instead of air (like I paid for).

No installation manual, no setup how-to, definitely not intuitive. Everything was in f***ing chinese and it took 2 hours of pressing buttons to get a menu, only to find that the micro-SD card (that I paid for) was not included. I sent an email to the vendor for a refund on that part.

Quick trip to the store, get the memory card and put it in. The unit doesn't recognize it.
Although, it's recording video segments at the specified intervals. Shrug.
I went ahead and mounted it, without knowing whether it was actually working or not.
Time will tell. I kinda feel like I got burned on this one.

Oh, and the eBay vendor was niximtech. I don't recommend them.

If it went surface it wouldn't have come for another month. It comes from China. It takes that long.

This is a product made for the domestic Chinese/Russian market. It's not made for North America which is why you had to import it and why there are no instructions and everything is in Chinese. Not sure what you were expecting.

If you have questions on how to set it up, i'd be happy to try and help.

I was hoping to get something more than just a tech spec sheet.
I think I've got a handle on it now, but thanks for the offer.

Anyone know how to get a suction cup to stick to a windshield when it's -15 out? This one keeps falling off every time it goes below 0C.

V1000GS: installed, worked fine for 8 days then died. The seller refuses to replace it, citing the 30-day return policy when the shipping alone took longer than that.

It's a scam.

Sorry to hear. I don't know how it's a scam...there isn't necessarily a return policy in China. That's the risk of doing business on ebay.

Is it completely dead or are the lights flashing? If flashing, try to reset.

That being said, most dash cams are of poor quality. They are not used here much yet and the locations which they are used in are sketchy at best. Chinese and Russians do not have as high of a QC system as Japan/NA obviously.

Take a look at the blackvue line:

http://www.blackboxmycar.com/

Expensive, but high quality.

They have one for $200 which doesn't seem too bad in terms of cost. Not that much more than the one talked about in this tread.

That really sucks Short Shift. I've had bad experiences on eBay too and haven't gone back.

Here's a small 1080p camera that can be used as a dash cam for $98.88 from Monoprice. Use code ACTION10 for $10 off. Read the reviews first for it's limitations.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

There are a number of other videos on youtube as well.

How often does this happen to you?

Not very often, but if it happen once, it's probably worth the $200 you spent initially.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a DVR207GS shortly...just waiting for a few more reviews to appear. I'm not willing to drop $100+ on a dashcam.

So worth, how has your dash cam been working out for you? Do you still keep it in your car all the time without issue?

I have been thinking about pulling the trigger on this one.

A118 Novatek 96650 Full HD 1080P Car Camera DVR

Under $80 and seems to be a good size and form factor. I think I can get the camera, wiring and a memory card for around $115 which doesn't seem too bad.

Recently bought this:

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00J...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and this:

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B007...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

off Amazon.

Altogether, they cost me 53$ with free shipping. Works great. I notice the cam itself is out of stock, but it's identical to every other GS8000L out there.

These ones seem to get decent reviews for the price. There's a few youtube videos of them and the video quality looks very good to me. I can't tell if the capacitor model is the way to go or not. Why doesn't a major player like Sony or Samsung make these?

I bought this one a month ago and have yet to find anything wrong with it, other than the time it took trying to decipher the poorly translated English.

It records in 1080P, and loops the recording. It comes on when my car does and shuts off with it too. No buttons to mess with.
So far, for such a inexpensive model, I'm pretty impressed.

Decided to bump this thread as I'm looking for some info. I'm thinking of ordering a couple G1WH dash cams for me and my parents. The reviews seem to be pretty good and the cam quality looks great. Price is good to. Before I order this, has anyone every used this unit before?
