I believe these gents from India have been shared in this thread before. This one's a banger.

Cynic has a new record and what I’ve heard is really good.

One of the best releases of 2021 IMO, similar to a favourite of mine from last year by a Canadian band too:

In Mourning have also released a new album. That one and the Swallow the Sun album should get me through the dark and cold months just fine

Warning, if you don't like your metal getting weird, then this won't be for you

Volbeat's new album is surprisingly solid. I loved their early stuff, but the last two album were pure ####, so I kinda lost hope for them. But I can work with the new one for the most part. Not as good as the old stuff, but a decent olive branch nonetheless.

New album from Voivod coming in February. First single with a really trippy video here. Needs to be watched on a large screen:

I used to always have them on my rotation. Saw them live as the Grey Eagle a few years back and they were great, then they went full Elvis Metal that just doesn't resonate with me. Have they dropped that?

They started with full Elvis metal, this was their first hit:

Ya Volbeat has always merged metal with rockabilly. And I love their earlier stuff, but I also love the newer stuff. So many fans complain about them not being heavy enough anymore, but if you want your traditional metal sound there are countless bands you can listen to. Volbeat went in a unique direction and I think it's awesome. Maybe it's just me mellowing out as I get older, but I'd put Die To Live up as one of the best songs they've ever done, even though it's not metal

well my gripe with the last albums wasn't necessarily that they weren't heavy enough, but that they seemed to run out of ideas and just copied themselves all the time. The "Seal the Deal" album specifically felt like a B-sides compilation full of songs that were similar to songs they had already done better. I mean, at some point they didn't even try ... listen to "Lola Montez" and "For Evigt" for example, it's the same god-damn riff.

Ya I would agree that Seal The Deal and Outlaw Gentlemen were their weakest albums, but even those still had some kickass songs like Devil's Bleeding Crown and Doc Holliday. Their last album before this year's though (Rewind, Replay, Rebound) was great IMO, as long as you were OK with them experimenting. Last Day Under The Sun and Leviathan are fantastic songs, but also some of the most radio friendly ones they've done

I actually liked Outlaw Gentlemen a lot. Maybe a bit less than the first 4 and there was some stuff I didn't like, but it was still a really good album for the most part. It was Seal the Deal where they started to lose me ... and I was really pissed about that one because they had become one of my favourite bands and it sucked that they put out such a weak effort. The Rewind one didn't do much more for me either tbh, but to each their own

RRR was a terrible album from any artist considering themselves metal or eve rock. I'm listening to the new album. It's much better but the one single Wait A Minute My Girl is a terribly mediocre version of some of their better radio friendly songs so it's not like they are trying to grow or branch out as I think they have a bit of an issue with recycling their stuff as the riffs are very interchangeable from song to song, album to album. Still like the band but it would be nice to see them surprise everyone with a banger album.

Jame Hetfield’s son’s band. Not too bad.

Posting this here because what the hell, I know CP isn't where I typically talk metal, but I just put out my first article in quite a while, in honor of the 50th anniversary of Japanese heavy metal (1970-2020). Might be a couple of names people recognize, but mainly it's just something I'd been working on for ages and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

Great article and obviously a tonne of research and work!

Surprised Swarrrm didn't get a mention though, they're one of my favs! Very chaotic grindcore.

Coffins got a mention, and they're one of the best death/doom bands in metal.
Glad to see Church of Misery got a lot of love too. I'm so happy I finally got to see them here in 2020.

Oh thanks. Yeah a handful of notables did slip my mind in the end, it's a surprisingly huge metal scene over there.

You were at the Church of Misery show too? That was my last show before the pandemic and it kicked ass. Nice bunch of guys too.

Yeah, I think it was pretty much the last event of any kind I went to just before the pandemic shutdown kicked in.

I love them, I have 5 of their albums so far on vinyl in various ridiculous colours.
