Flames UPD: Hanifin says he is "super close" to signing. Wants at least 5 yr deal.

Kristen Anderson @KdotAnderson
Spoke to #Flames GM Brad about Noah Hanifin's pending contract too. Treliving is confident the deal will be in place before training camp. Dialogue has been positive on both sides. "It'll get done, but it's just not done yet."

News Update

Dan Rosen @drosennhl
Spoke to Noah Hanifin tonight about his contract situation with the Flames. He's an RFA still, but said he's "super close" to signing and has no worries about not being signed before players report Sept. 9. He said he feels he can take his game to "the next level" this season.

News Update

Hanifin said he's hopeful to sign a contract of at least five years. Treliving wouldn't comment on the details of the negotiation.

This offseason has actually had a lot of Flames talk going on, so it's gone by pretty quick. BT is simply waiting for the right time to finish the contract because now the news is all but a trickle, so he wants to save it for the next couple weeks so CP has something to talk about.

Good Guy BT looking out for the forum.

He has a thing for saving the servers.

With the Flames announcing the Rychel signing, Hanifin is now the only unsigned RFA.

Dumba signed 5 years for 6M.

That was his third contract after ELC and bridge. Hanifin's looking at his second, so not quite comparable.

Even so, I did appreciate the new thread with BT's comments on the contract talks, rather than having it buried in an already existing mega thread.

Nurse, Theodore, and Morrissey are all still in the same boat as Hanifin.

All four are coming off their ELCs and put up 25+ points last season. Hanifin is the only one of the four to average less than 20 minutes per game last season.

Hanifin is two years younger than the other three. He has also played more total NHL games and scored more total NHL points than the others, but they were all pretty close last season.

Worried about what? That he'll refuse to sign? That he won't sign until mid season? That he won't sign until after training camp? It will get done. Although it probably hurts the team a bit if it happens after September 15th.

I guess you could say no update, but for a guy that is pretty conservative on newsflow, this is pretty positive. Like as in there is a short term deal that is simple but working on longing term.

I think everyone is waiting for Nurse to sign. None of the agents want to be made to look ridiculous by signing low when a desperate Chia could blow up the whole market.

That's concerning that Nurse and Hanifin are comparable given the Oilers tendency to hand out and sign horrible contracts. Hopefully Tre gets Hanifin done first.

I would imagine that BT brings up the Oilers penchant to sign terrible deals if Hanifin uses anything happening up there to try and hardball a silly contract.

Other than the odd UFA, usually Treliving gets really good contracts done, so I'm not worried on that score.
