Default Window Washing?

CP'ers,

Who do you recommend for getting your home's windows washed? I usually do it myself, but am too busy these days, and so starting to outsource a lot of stuff I used to do myself... Would appreciate recommendations!

If you have the equipment: cash corner or a casual labourer from the Drop-In Centre.

I'll second the Drop In. I've used the guys there to move a couple of times. Great hard working folks I'd hire them again in a second, especially for work like you need done. Assuming I already had the equipment.

Why would you wander around the drop-in centre looking for people to clean your windows that may or may not have ever cleaned a window in their lives? That's the weirdest/worst advice for a simple question.

There are professional companies that do this sort of thing. BigNumbers is obviously looking for a recommendation to one of those; not a bum he can cart over to his house and teach how to clean a window using his equipment. At that point it'd be faster just to do it himself.

I never realized that 'the homeless' was actually an option for consideration.

We used Men in Kilts and they did a great job. Juuuust.....dont look up.

Nice to see you think everyone down on their luck is automatically a bum.

I had no idea that was actually something people did. Is it the Calgary version of home depot parking lot labourers?

This isn’t the first time you shown your ####ty attitude towards the less fortunate.

The Drop In has a casual labour program. We used it to hire some guys to haul some dirt and tiles. They were very hard working. Washing windows isn’t rocket science. They’ll send someone who knows how.

God forbid you stoop to hiring someone who could really need the money.

We've used them at our house a couple of times. Get them to clean your fan too if you have one up high!

I didn't know this. This is actually good to know.

I’m normally not the guy to defend Sliver- but to be fair how it was originally described seemed sketchy as heck.

That sounds better. I too had visions of just going down- asking random homeless people and seeing who would get into your vehicle with you. Good to know they have an actual program- sounds like it’s geared towards getting people back on their feet.

That would be relevant information that the people who recommended the DIC should have added. I mean, I know it's always the right time to get upset at people that say things bluntly, but if you think about it, it's a pretty silly suggestion to hire someone with no experience to climb a ladder on your property and work at heights.

And not knowing that they have an organized work program makes it sound like you literally are telling the OP to go on down to the drop in center and start soliciting.

But don't let that interfere with your scolding.

Edit... Point already made

Yeah, knowing it was an actual program would have been a helpful bit of info to start with

Funny where people's heads go. When I read the OP, I thought "Hmm, does the drop in centre have some sort of work program?" not "Why would I want a dirty bum washing my windows?"

There are different ways to approach the same question that don't make you a jerk.

My wife inexplicably let the door to door people with a little cart (Great Canadian Landscaping? 4 Star Landscaping?) do our windows last year.

They only did the ground floor windows. Wouldn't use em again.

Who said that? I must have missed it.

The way it was originally suggested made it sound like you walk around the drop in centre with a $20 bill soliciting cheap labour. Nothing wrong with people thinking that sounds odd

Exactly. Particularly when his other suggestion - in the same sentence - was to grab a rando from cash corner. That is a great way to invite a world of trouble into your life. Imagine that guy getting hurt on your property working for cash under the table? I cringe at the thought of someone actually doing that.

Ya, you don’t want a guy with limited resources lawyering up.
