It's at Barclays. I'd still go for that rather than going out to the Meadowlands. Just spend the afternoon / evening around Brooklyn.
The Pens game would be cool too though, just to be able to say you've seen Crosby live.

So, how about my timing?
It seems inevitable that events of that size are going to be banned, and comparing the timelines for Europe and US, I'm pretty sure it's going to happen before I come back from New York.
But will it happen before the 16th?
There's no canceling either, there'd be no refunds because there are no restrictions yet...
If I fly to New York for this, and they play the games in empty arenas, I can't even.
Literally just can't even. This is so nerve wrecking.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even if the worst occurs and the events are cancelled, you're still going to have a wicked time. There's so much to see and do there that, honestly, you'll forget about the hockey game pretty quick.
My money is on them not cancelling though

I doubt it gets to that point. Don't listen to all the hype and fear mongering used to sell toilet paper and hand sanitizer

Lebron James said he won't play in empty arenas. Mind you that's basketball.

Umm, what? Bans are bans. San Francisco has already banned public gatherings over 1000 people which affects the Warriors in the NBA, and more municipalities will definitely follow in to spring.
The NBA has already put measures in place and are ready to play in empty stadiums. I get why you could think the measures are stupid, but to suggest he "not listen to hype" and that they are "fear mongering to sell toilet paper and hand sanitizer" is pretty stupid when public gathering bans are already over Europe and just starting here in North America.

And who's "they" anyways? Paper product companies benefit from toilet paper sales, but billionaires, including many major American corporations benefit from millions in profit PER NIGHT from full sports arenas and stadiums.
If corporate America and their government (same thing really) was biasing any direction it would be to minimize the virus which would lead to a better stock market (which America lives and dies by) and millions upon millions in profit for pretty much everyone except for a few paper product companies.
What an uninformed, asinine, conspiracy level post.

Ah, didn't see that part. Is the new arena fully privately owned? I wonder what that means for partially owned city buildings?
edit: looked it up and yeah it's 100% privately owned, so looks like San Francisco can't force them to play empty as of now.

But isn't that kind of weird? If your goal is minimize spread of a virus and you shut down public gatherings in city owned properties but allow 20000 to gather on a nightly basis for concerts and basketball games, then what's the point of banning gatherings at all?
Unless I'm wrong these bans in Europe are blanket bans which is the only pragmatic way to instill bans to stop spread?

I think he means this:
https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/coro...ities/2250058/
They also canceled their St. Patrick's day parade.
It's not the same as banning all public events of that size, that happened in France, but the point remains. My attitude has exactly zero relevance here, and it's a thing that's almost guaranteed to happen. It's a question of when.
Obviously there's huge financial pressure to not do it, but if it happens it's not just hockey, but also stuff like Broadway and concerts that's going to be affected.
Plus there's an above zero chance to get quarantined.
Sure, everything might go fine, but at this point there's just no guarantees what's going to happen.

I’m headed to NYC too, to see the Flames play the Rangers and Islanders.
Not deterred by the Coronavirus.

I'm headed to NYC on Mar 19, and will be heading down the subway to watch the Flames take on the Devils that same night. I'm going with my wife and 5 year old son, and we aren't being deterred either. We will just have lots of hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes with us.
I just checked the CDC website, and there is NO travel advisories to NYC and area, despite NY State declaring a state of emergency. The state of emergency, as far as I can tell, is just to remove the red tape for bureaucrats to take appropriate safety measures if that time comes.
If you are at the Devils game, I'll be lower bowl section 15, wearing my Valimaki jersey. haha

Was supposed to be in NYC next week and was going to take in the Flames game at MSG.
Unfortunately our company is strongly discouraging all non-essential travel, including to large cities in the US.
I was on the fence anyway so will not be going.
