$3.99 for a burger, fries, and a drink at Willy's...good God I hate inflation.

Does anybody remember a show on Access TV (channel 13) that would do junior high / high school homework for the Alberta curriculum?

It's amazing how hard it is to trace back things that are only decades in our past.
I'm the same way. My neighbourhood sees a pretty steady drumbeat of infill activity, and anytime the "fences of imminent doom" (as we call them in my house) go up I try and snap a "before" picture with the intention of also getting "after" pictures from the same angle later on. Often the houses being torn down are in pretty bad shape, but you can't help but wonder what stories they could tell if the walls could talk.

I also like finding sections of sidewalk where you can see contractors' stamps from the 1940s, when evidently most of my neighbourhood was initially poured. They aren't especially rare but it is kind of impressive that the work done is still doing good service today and in most cases in excellent condition.

The mushroom burgers on McLeod Trail slapped

Speaking of Burgers. I miss Harvey's so god damn much living down here. Get a Swiss Chalet Fries/Rib BBQ sauce and dip the burger in there. So good!

Your memory, as it relates to Harvey's is playing tricks on you.

It sucks.

Willy's on the other hand was outstanding. Such a good place for quick cheap food.

How Harvey's somehow makes a ground beef patty rubbery like bologna, must actually take concerted effort. It's never made sense how they end up like that. Even a frikkin McDonalds 1/4 pounder patty crumbles.

I'm firmly in the Harvey's is bad camp.

For old school burgers, CBs is still kicking around. But really at CBs, the burger is the side to the fries. Those fries.....MY GOD.

Edit: I am actually pretty sure CBs was either a Willy's or Bobs Hamburgers before becoming CBs. Their burgers are very similar to Willys.

I didn't mind Harvey's when I was younger but the last time i had it about 4 years ago it was soooo salty I couldn't finish it.

Also cool story bro. Back in the early 90s you could order drugs at the Brentwood Harvey's drive-thru if you placed McDonald's items like Big Mac and Filet of Fish... lol

Maybe I'm getting old and yelling at clouds, but an adult using non-adjectives like "slapped" or "fire" as an adjective is so cringeworthy and won't age well. It was like 30 years ago when adults would say stuff like "tubular/radical/cowabunga" or 15 years ago "I like wine coolers".

Anyways, back to the topic on hand:

today's smashburgers >>> ANY of yesterdays ye olde hamburger of yore

The patties are too tightly formed, and then freezing them results in that rubbery texture. I can't eat from-frozen patties anymore because of it.

CB also has great milkshakes! And chili cheese dogs!
