Crappy news, Lufthansa is dropping the YYC-FRA flight as of February 4th.
What!?!? Permanently? Or seasonally?? That sucks huge, that is probably the flight I take more than any other. Will AC still be keeping the route? I find AC is actually pretty much comparable to Lufthansa now, and more English entertainment content.
I am thinking it would just a seasonal cancellation and will be back in June if the news is true. I always thought it was odd that both airlines flew the route, why wouldnt just AC do the route and LH do a 4X weekly to Munich.

Does this mean the Condor routes are toast too?
As of right now the flight is completely out of the schedule. So it is not a seasonal cancellation at this point.
Air Canada is reported to be going to the A333 on the FRA route once this happens (a lot of rumour that they may even utilize a 777 on the flight).
I think Condor will still do their thing on the charter side, perhaps even increasing in frequency.
This is most likely AC and LH streamlining their ops to FRA from YYC, it could be a sign that BA and KLM have hurt them a little to on the YYC-Europe traffic.

Yup, late to non-existent! A 747 FO over at airliners.net was saying with the centre of gravity sitting in front of the main gears on the 747 if you flare too late you pretty much "push" the main gears down onto the runway.
Ouch. Just look at the inboard flaps shake with the impact, massive amount of force being absorbed by the tires and airframe.
I forgot to brag that I got to hang out in the control tower at YYC a couple weeks ago. That's some cool stuff going on up there.
Very fun to go up there and watch them at work. I used to take our ground school classes up there at least once so they could get a look at things from behind the ATC screen.
I would love to see the view from the new tower when it is complete, tallest eye height cab in the country when it's done.

How hard is it to get in there with, say, a small group of cub scouts?

Not too sure, it was easy for us since it was a ground school of private pilots and ATC loves the chance to show them the world of flying from their end. Helps us all get along better and understand the limitations on either side.
You could try blasting them an email to see if they can set it up for your cub scouts:
Rumour has it that Westjet is going to be announcing something today. Sounds like it may have something to do with them working with a regional partner like Central Mountain Air or Hawkair.

Any word on this as of yet?
I've done a few Google searches throughout the day but I can't find anything on it
