The funny part in this discussion is that all the complaints about Stoney were accounted for. It's not the designers fault that the government decided to delay the widening of Stoney in the NE end of the city. The road was ready to be widened with minimal effort since it was built.

If you're not in a tent, you're not actually camping.

I bet 95% of people posting here about camping have an RV.
that's not camping. it's just a towable house.

That and it's tougher to install an electric bear-fence off the grid.

Dumber words have never been spoken.

There are multiple ways to camp. Towing a house just happens to be the best way.

At my age, I actually happen to agree. I couldn't camp in a tent any more, especially without an air mattress. it would kill me.

That’s why I have a pickup bed tent. Keeps me off the ground, gives me the high ground on bears, and is still a tent. Win win.

it's amazing how many people go camping and then just watch TV.

You mean to tell me that none of you have gone camping and watched Blair Witch Project at night?

I get how that would look weird, but after a long week and you just want to chill, it's actually really nice. One of my favourite things if I just need to unwind is to get to the site, have a few beers around the fire, then go into the trailer, have a shower, then watch a movie. It's very relaxing.

We go out like 30 nights a year. There are only so many smores a guy can eat.

Some weekends we basically live outdoors and only sleep in the trailer. Other weekends we barely leave the trailer. You can have an outdoorsy experience, or you can just transplant a mini version of your house onto the top of a mountain and just enjoy being there. I love it in part because it gives you the option for so many different experiences.

I'll preface this with the statement that I'm *not* being racist, merely recounting an actual conversation I've had with someone from Africa which went roughly like:
Me: hey dude, we're going camping! Wanna join us?
Them: No man. Your camper is nicer than what I came from back in Africa. Why would I want to leave my house and comforts which are better than your camper, to go to something worse than what I left behind?
Me: eer... cos it's fun? we hang out? have a fire, drink, talk, ya know...
Them: sigh.... you don't get it. Ok maybe I'll come out for a short visit, but then I'm coming home to my real bed. Besides, I only pay for my house and not these expensive camping trips.
Me: er... maybe you're onto something. Hey well it's not about the expense, it's about the time together and leaving devices behind.
Them: shrug...

(or something like that).
The short of it being that I don't expect others to enjoy camping, just like I don't enjoy watching too many hours of tv all the time, or going to games, or whatever. Besides, once kids fly the coop we might not camp at all until they have their own clan of kids.

Any sort of firm braking (not slamming on the brakes but not a rolling stop) just before the crosswalk sets them off now. Maybe itís looking for your seatbelt?

I've had similar conversations with immigrant friends... They say "I came to Canada so I didn't have to live in a tent anymore, why would I do it for 'fun'!"

Yes I was just about to say, I find camping is very much a western-society thing (maybe Europe too?). I'm an immigrant as well and don't have much interest in leaving behind plumbing/water haha

Y’all know there are categories eh?
Camping- tents and basic facilities
Glamping- glamour camping with full hook ups(tv & wifi optional)
RVing- live in mobile units with all features available (rarely s’mores)

When I am glamping it amazes me how many grey haired people I meet who still enjoy tenting.

Same here. As an East Indian, I'm not into it and know very few people of the same background that will actually do the whole camping with a tent thing. My parents weren't into it either and I really hope my kids won't ask me to take them camping. Not to knock anyone that's into it but it's definitely not for me.

One of my friends is Chinese and she came camping with us last year. She was totally shocked at how many Chinese families were camping (Tunnel Mountain) and I hadn't noticed how white camping usually seems to be until she said that.
