In my opinion we need to trade Ryan, Bennett and Nesterov for a picks as they will leave for sure.
If you want retool, I would trade Hanifin for 1st rounder and young F prospect. He's playing best hockey because of Tanev, so his trade value is highest now.
Of season, try flip Monahan for younger C with higher ceiling.
If you trade Johnny we need get back high end prospect and draft pick but not sure about his NTC.
I don't like Tkachuk salary but I want to keep it. If you can get lots return I would trade him.

Those are reasonable suggestions, though I believe it's best to hold onto Hanifin. In respect to Gaudreau if you could get Mercer and a first from Jersey, that would be a solid return in today's market. Gaudreau is capable of moving the needle for the Devils, but even his reasonable contract presents problems which limit the options in moving him. Unfortunately, given the history of Sutter and Treliving It is more likely they convert any assets into safer returns, which increases the likelihood the fan base is a bit more unethused in 4-5 years. Hopefully management can see the changing landscape and understands that there is a path to a quick build with abrupt commitment. In three years the team might look like Carolina, or Nashville, and as a fan I know which team I would prefer to support.

I don’t think they’re lazy, I think they’re simply outclassed by other teams first lines.

We have some really attractive depth pieces for teams with elite talent already.

I would add Rittich and Lievo to the list of players that could be moved at the deadline

Ryan for 3rd or 4th
Bennett for a late 1st pick (Leafs, Avs etc)
Nesterov 4th or 5th
Rittch 2nd or 3rd
Lievo 6th


Flames can recoup the 3rd and 4th picks in this draft but also add potential another 1st, 2nd 5th and 6th picks. Thats just of the trade deadline. Now if the draft is looking better next year than try to get 2022 picks.

At first I thought the Flames won’t get a 1st for Bennett. Given he has arb rights and the expansion draft, I would imagine no team is protecting him.

That said, what’s the value of a first round pick this year? I believe this years draft wasn’t really thought to be that strong before the pandemic. It will be interesting to see if Treliving can pry that sort of asset for Bennett. A more likely scenario could be a former 1st who is struggling to find his game.

Tampa paid a first for Barclay Goodrow last year. Bennett is a proven playoff performer, so it’s entirely possible he nets a first.

Playoff Sam, deserves a first. He gets 20 points for you on a long playoff run. Let’s be clear he is as consistent in playoffs as he is in the regular season, just in a more positive light.

Absolutely gets a first draft pick.
