You don't even have to look at points. Depending on whether Neal or Frolik play in the bottom six, one of them is better than anyone in Edmonton. Then you have Bennett, Dube, Jankowski, Czarnik, Ryan. They'd jump at the chance to play any of those guys.

I don't think it is a coincidence that that run of games they got secondary scoring they were able to win some games. Depth was always going to be their issue.

Just for fun. Edmonton forward scoring outside of their top line of McDavid, Draisaitl and Hopkins (even though Hopkins has 3 goals)
goals 19 (Alex Chiasson and Drage Caggiula with 11 of those) points 36

Calgary scoring outside of JG, SM EL
Goals 27 points 57

Edmonton defense

Goals 2 points 25

Calgary defense

Goals 4 points 33 points

Edmonton first line of RH CM LD

goals 23 points 57

Calgary's first line of JG SM EL

goals 23 points 55

Edmonton first line % goals 51% total points Edmonton
Edmonton total points 118 first line % points 48%

Calgary first line % goals 43
Calgary total points 145 first line % points 38%

If anything happens to that Oilers first line, they have very little to fall back on.
Does anyone believe that Chaisson is going to continue his hot streak? or 42% shot percentage?

Also if you look at the Edmonton first line Leon has 10 Conner has 10 and Hopkins has 3

Calgary Johnny has 6 Sean has 8 Elias has 9.

Their third leading goal scorer behind $12.5M McDavid and $8.5M Draisaitl is Alex Chiasson.

The same Alex Chiasson who came into camp on a PTO.

The same Alex Chiasson who is earning just a little over the league minimum.

On some level this could be a good thing but the reality is that E=NG

Is it worse if, like he said, from the moment he drafted McDavid, he knew what it meant for his cap? so he knew what was coming and proceeded to sign Russell and Lucic to huge, long term contracts?

Weren't they flush with right wingers during the preseason? Seems to remember the talking heads gushing how that problem was solved.

"Flames have better forward depth, maybe"

Three points total in 23 games for both... Ouch. Honest question, Bennett is older and has a had a couple difficult seasons himself. Is he a better option to have going forward than Puljujarvi?

At this point Bennett is easily the better option than Puljujarvi. Bennett has shown a lot more in his game than just putting up points where as Puljujarvi has basically done nothing up to this point in his career.

The right move, just way too late. Neither should have been in the NHL this year or last. If this team didn’t fluke out and win the McDavid lottery I can’t imagine how much more of a dumpster fire it would be. He’s covering up a LOT of warts.

Interesting stat:

Matthew Tkachuk is way way way better than Puljujarvi and Yamamoto.

Outside of Calgary there probably isn’t a single evaluator in the league who would agree with this. I love to goof on Edmonton as much as anyone but the insane optimism about Sam Bennett is something else.

Really? Are you sure you love to goof on Edmonton? Which part jg13 said was not correct? What has Puljujarvi done so far in his career that showed he is better player than Bennett?

Well, considering they just sent Puljujarvi to the AHL, it's safe to assume that even the evaluators in the Oiler organization believes that Puljujarvi has done nothing to this point to show he should be in the NHL.

Ya and he’s also 2 years younger. Sam Bennett is what he is at this point, and it’s highly inflated here. 20-30 point 3rd/4th line grinder until he proves otherwise. Jesse might not even end up being that but there’s a lot more time left for him to find out.

The point is more that Bennett is way overrated here, still.

The question was to which one is better going forward. If you want the sure thing as a 4th line grinder then sure, go with Bennett. If you wanna take a chance on a scoring winger who was mismanaged by being drafted by the dumbest team in the league then you take Pul. Neither is a great option.
