Great result but man did he ever fall apart on 18. Horrible drive, then chipped it on and off the back of the green. Now will be luck to get out with a bogey.

If it's any consolation the other two guys were likely beating him if he pared anyways. Still, a top 3 finish is so great Hughes. Hopefully he can build off this.

Second good result in a row for him. He's getting looks and has to trust himself to deliver. Last week he was 13th with two putts from under 5 feet missed in the final round - those were expensive misses.

I wonder if he needs some time with a coach working on the mental game.

That said, great to see him put some rounds together and hope it carries over to next week.

Even with the small purse for the tourney, his T2nd should more than double both his earnings to date and Fed Ex Cup points this season.

Corey Conners is in a 6 for 1 playoff to get into the Valero.

Corry Connors continues his momentum. He has birdied 4 of his first 5 holes on Saturday to climb into a tie for the lead.

Lots of rain and the course is really wet. The bunkers will see balls plug (as seen by Speith). If you can hit the fairways the greens will hold and you can hunt for the pins. If you are a bit erratic, this could go the other way for you fast.

Brooke starts her day in a T-12 on the lpga

As a final comment, the US Women's amateur is at Augusta this year. Down to the final 2 holes with two ladies neck and neck playing some awesome golf. If you enjoy the sport turn it on. Tsn. Showing it.

(As I type this one lady 3 putts 16 while the other birdies it. 2 shot lead heading to 17)

Turned on nbc to watch the valero, after having watched on the golf channel

During their daily sport recap montage before the golf coverage they included a nice segment on the anniversary of the Humboldt broncos tragedy, including showing a pile of NHL teams leaving a stick outside their dressing rooms.

Nice touch nbc

He had been 4 up, just bogeyed the 6th after a poor chip. now is in the sand on the par 3 7th with what looks like a tough shot coming up to get up and down for par.

And he put it over the green...

I don't know what it is but whenever I start watching late when a Canadian's in contention they start to freefall. Guess I'd better stop watching!

He'll be lucky to bogey now.

Me too! Time to watch something else.

Nice chip back to save a bogey.

99 yards out, middle of the fairway, yanked into the bunker

I can relate to that shot.

Damn, I doubt he'll have the mental fortitude to hold off the chasers after three straight bogeys. I hope I'm wrong, hopefully he resets and drains a couple birdies.
