Kid is going to be a player IMO.

He caught my eye about 2 1/2 years ago at a game in Lethbridge. He has some "it" factor in his game that, if it translates to the NHL, will make him a really good offensive dman.

Good for Addy.

Can't see him in the NHL next year though, so luckily us Canes fans will likely get to enjoy him for another season.

Would love another year of Bellerive too, Pens.

Hitmen down 2-0 in a series again. I don't think they'll be winning 4 out of 5 from the Oil Kings like they did against my Canes though and are probably done this time. The OKs aren't one dimensional like Lethbridge.

Raiders win both at home against the Blades as well. Will be interesting to see if Saskatoon can turn the series around on home ice.

And Spokane continues to roll, stealing both games in Everett for a 2-0 series lead.

The war of words between Mitch Love and Marc Habscheid should make an interesting Game 3 with how chippy the series has already been. Those 2 won't be grabbing a coffee anytime soon.

Hitmen tied game 3 late in the third but the Oil Kings score early in OT to go up 3-0 in the series.

Shocked that Saskatoon shutout PA 1-0 last night. I'm surprised that PA only had 26 shots on goal. There were times where they completely carried the play and had the Blades hemmed into their own zone. Saskatoon did a good job of keeping the play along the boards and limiting dangerous chances though.

The Oil Kings were going to the worst possible opponent for the Hitmen. They played each other 12 times between the regular season and playoffs, the Hitmen won once.

The good news is, the Hitmen should be a top contender next season.

Spokane knocked off Everett tonight. The West final is Spokane vs Vancouver.

IMO Saskatoon was the 2nd best team in the Eastern conference this year. Better than anyone in the Central. More evidence of why this playoff format is stupid and needs to be changed.

The P.A./Saskatoon meeting should have been for the conference title. Not the 2nd round.

What would you propose? With bus travel, distances, and expense of travel being what it is it is not practical to go 1 vs 8 etc. right away and the current format helps keep travel reasonable for the first two rounds and builds rivalries at the same time . It's not ideal but the league needs to consider off ice factors as well when scheduling playoffs.

It annoys the fans but in the end the best teams should be squaring off regardless. Better when they are healthier? Or does it hurt them going into the next round banged up against a weaker team?

The GM's are the ones who've opted for this, so even they are choosing less travel and fixed costs over the potential of an extra series or an easier road to the final. I remember sitting with one of the business guys for the Warriors several years back and we were winning game 4 down 3-0 in the series and he was cringing at the costs of heading back on the road for one more game in a series they have no hope of winning.

I think we need to chill and just enjoy the playoffs the way the league chooses.

OKs thumped PA 5-1 tonight to take a 2-1 series lead.

Quite a run for Edmonton so far.

This makes me happy. It could be 3-0 for the Oil Kings but for a bad deflection off a defenceman and into their own net in a 1-0 game. I'm a little surprised, PA looked like world beaters for most of the season. I wasn't sure the Oil Kings had this in them.

Such is the vagaries of junior hockey. I still remember the Calgary Hitmen kicking the crap out of the WHL in 2008-09 (59-9-4), then winning 12 straight in the playoffs before running face first into Kelowna in the final.

I had this conversation last night with a colleague who is PA fan as he lived there for a few years. I’m a huge OKs fan. They’re doing it with a balanced, deep lineup. Scoring is coming from everywhere. The team is young and should be better next season.
