The problem with NPR going 'slient' is that people will still continue to share NPR content on Twitter. That doesn't even include the hashtags and data harvesting about NPR as a topic on its own.

The official handle may be silent, but the content will still be present.

I guess depending on how you look at it, it could be a futile effort or an excellent model in decentralized, free advertising.

It was always a safe bet that Musk was going to bend the Twitter files to his own benefit, but that doesn't wash away the fact that they Taibbi clearly demonstrated that military intelligence, the democratic elite, traditional media and big tech were all conspiring together in order to manipulate world events to their mutual advantage and all the terrifying implications that go along with that. I fully expect Elon will do something similar and that it's to Taibbi's credit that he's now publicly butting heads with Elon.

LOL, like Taibbi had a choice. His Substack generates something like $15-20M in subscriber revenue a year. He's not butting heads with Musk out of some kind of principled position; he just doesn't want to lose his lucrative revenue stream. He was happy to be a useful idiot for Musk as long as it didn't impact his bottom line.

This is coming across like wrestling.
Friends becoming enemies to build up some heat, while behind the scenes they're still buddies and scripting the whole thing.

I’ve opened a Tribel account but I’ll ride Twitter up to the end. My account is large and I don’t want to just walk away.

Also regarding the "Twitter Files" they were so successful and impactful that even Musk is abandoning them, in the BBC interview in the part about them Musk said "Let's move on to the future"

What were the “Twitter Files” even supposed go be? Like some kind of qanon treasure trove or something?

Supposedly a smoking gun but ended up being a bunch of people mad that Biden requested nudes of Hunter Biden be removed from Twitter.

for some reason, Twitter won't let me log in on my PC anymore without entering a security code they send via email. Well, too bad the mail always only arrives after an hour (!!!) and Twitter then tells me the code is expired. Has nothing to do with my email provider, I've sent test mails from other addresses and they arrive instantly. So, I can't get into the account on my PC anymore at all, while I can still log in without any issues on my phone. Just brilliant stuff.

Nah bro, it's the words NOT on the page that are the real story.

Like pineapples. The Twitter Files didn't mention pineapples once. What doesn't the US Government want us finding out? WHAT ARE YOU HIDING ABOUT THE PINEAPPLES, DARK BRANDON?

Seriously GGG, you know who you're talking to by now. Every time you see something like this and think "Well, that's pretty far out there", remember it is still not the dumbest thing he believes.

Musk is going all crazy about the NPR thing on Twitter right now, and is calling for them to be "defunded." For their part, NPR says the label calls into question their editorial independence and undermines their credibility, which feels like fair complaint. So now Musk wants them de-funded, which is just great for Twitter, as it helps push Musk's narrative that citizen journalism is the end all-be all. Musk is really attacking a fundamental platform of democracy here.

NPR could easily survive without their federal funding.

But that's not the point. A free and independent press is instrumental to democracy and the government has an obligation to fund public broadcasting (which it does).

Republicans upset at the FTC investigating Twitter's use of private information to ensure they're complying with what they agreed to.

Quote:
A Republican lawmaker who chairs a key House committee subpoenaed Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan today in an attempt to rein in the agency's ongoing investigation into Twitter.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), chairman of the Judiciary Committee and the newly created Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, told Kahn today that his committee's research shows "the FTC harassed Twitter in the wake of Mr. Musk's acquisition" and "abused it [sic] statutory and enforcement authority."
