Likely an Ekblad replacement. Good pickup, was kinda hoping Florida would be a landing spot for Gio

Apparently Shane O'Brian broke this this trade.

Hard to gauge anyone in Buffalo, they all seem to suck once they get there.

The Flames are not trading Gio, Sutter loves him too much.

Our best hope for getting out from under Gio is Seattle. But the Flames will probably protect him becasue Flames.

I was more thinking that Florida looks competitive this year and I would love to see Gio with a shot at the cup.

He only has one year left...why is getting out from under Gio a big deal?

He would be a good deadline UFA guy next year potentially if he is still here

Seems like a good move for Florida. Sort of shows that the Flames will be lucky to get a 6th for anything they are looking to sell. Was only like two years that Buffalo gave up a later first for Montour. That organization is way worse than Edmonton.

All these "great deals" for rentals but still only one winner. Does this put them over Tampa in a 7 game series? I don't think so.

So maybe Montour isn’t a great Ekblad replacement?

Yeah sounds like prices on players will be cheap this year. I read that Hall without an extension would be a 2nd or 3rd round pick .

It seems like there are a lot of these guys in the league. Montour, Matheson, Ceci, Edmundson, etc. Bigger names but they all suck analytically

I would like to see where he fits in under the 2021-22 Flames team with an off season knowing that the players are coming back to Sutter.

If they are out of the playoffs and selling again next year then Gio might not have a lot of trade value. This year he could be a boost to the 4-5 spot on a good team.

On the other hand if Gio and the Flames rebound next year it would line up the possibility of Gio doing the Thornton/Marleau/Spezza role as a 1 x 1 with him being a regular 5-6 and fill in roles in the top-4. Rather that was with the Flames rather than the Leafs.

In comparison, looks like Colorado did well with the Nemeth acquisition for a 4th rounder
