He was dominant in the offensive zone in the prospects game. He is going to destroy the Q this year.

I believe he will play in the NHL.

I think I saw him asked this question.

Said he loves having everything up the ice from him so he can see it when he makes his decisions or something like that.

Wouldn't be the same up front.

Which isn't to say it can't be done, but they are different.

I get M.A. Bergeron vibes from him but without the defensive ability.

He is much bigger mind you and that will serve him well, but IMO a longshot to ever be a regular NHL dman.

Working under Sutter, however briefly, is a great way to change what he needs though, so one can only hope it sticks with him.

Ryan Huska was a defenseman whisperer in Kelowna too.

I've watched him quite a bit over the years. I don't want to be a negative Nancy or anything but like this guy has a ton of work to do.

There are not many players like him. Go look at some of his highlights and you will see goals of him driving the net and deking out a few players and the goalie to boot. His offensive skillset in undeniable.

His main tool is his hands, he has wicked hands. Players in the Q have caught on to this and don't rush him as much as they used to on the blue line.

He is also a very capable passer and has an okay shot. His wrister is good but he could work on his Slapper.

He is not slow and can play pretty aggressive the only problem is that he can't control his man. He loses his man all the time, pinches when he shouldnt and doesn't poke check when he should.

Like this is a long long term project, he has all the tools also but needs to completely change the way he plays in both the neutral zone and D zone.

I am and always was far more confident in Francis than Poirier.

Hopefully the Flames don't give Poirier the Kylington/Niku treatment

I remember when the Flames tried Housley as a center and he hated it. He mentioned how as a defenseman, you get used to seeing plays develop from a different perspective.

There is a place in the NHL for one dimensional offensive defensemen. It’s all about deployment and accepting that there is going to be some give and take on the scoreboard.

The QMJHL is a pretty trigger-happy, scorers' league. Let's hope he can refine his game all-around in Saint John.

Likely quite a bit worse. If he doesn’t improve quite a bit, he won’t sniff the NHL.

But his ceiling is high.

Would Keith Yandle be an appropriate upside comparison? Another defenseman from the Q who wracked up points with less than stellar defense.

I missed the prospect games. Was Poirier bad in them? Seems to be a lot of negativity towards this player. Brad Treliving sounded really happy with his performance.

He looked great every time the team had the puck in the offensive zone as he snuck in really well and created a lot of chances.

But he also looked terrible in the defensive zone.

So he was as advertised.

Think he legitimately has a great chance to surpass 80 points this year in the Q
How do they count “dekes”? Do they even count that in the NHL? Except for Edmonton that is
