He had two more points than Gaudreau, eight more than Tkachuck

I assumed it was a wider gap considering how people talk

Ridiculous.
Actually blame agents. They finally convinced good hockey players to stop giving up money to bad old players and doing teams favours for signing for less than they are worth for their prime years.

Its not like the Wild have ever grossly overpaid players and then horribly regretted it. I’m sure this will work out fine.

Dubas is an idiot but it started before that with Penner and Vanek, oilers screwing up the league as usual.

What other players that good could have been had for that money this off-season?

Member when the Oilers made Phaneuf a top ten paid D-man on his second contract?! Screwed us all! Preposterous!

He will be 8 years younger than Parise and Suter are now when this contract expires. I think they’ll be fine.

7 of 9 years in the playoffs with Parise and Sutter.

Flames were 4 of 9.

over the length of Parise/Sutter in Minny they were #10th in regular season winning %. .588

The Flames were 24th over that period with a .535

It would be better to stick to mocking Edmonton.

I'd rather overpay stars coming off their ELC than overpay on their third contract taking them into their mid 30s.

how does this compare to Tkachuk's contract he got after 2018-19?

On the 2018-19 Flames Tkachuk was 4 th in scoring tied for 2nd/3rd in goal scoring, was 5th in forward TOI 3rd in ES pts

Kaprizov was 1st, by a fair margin in all of these categories for the Wild.

If Tkachuk is as far ahead of the other Flames forwards this season as Kaprizov was in 2020-21 Tkachuk's 9M qualifying offer will be the Flames low end starting point for a 5 year deal

Minnesota have dead cap space for those 2 guys to of 12.7 million next season, then 14.7 million the next two

Sorry, that is quite worthy of mockery

Say that the Wild is a playoff team this year and they miss the playoffs all 3 of those big dead cap years.

Say the Flames make the playoffs for the next 4 years.

That would leave them and the Flames with 8 playoff seasons in 13 years.

I think this deal will lead Brady Tkachuk to signing something along $8Mx5 years. The Sens want him to be captain and are trying to get him 8x8 but he is looking to get paid and get out. Matthew was looking for the Aho deal in 2019 but settled for the bridge with an even quicker path to UFA status

55 NHL games with 51 points and this guy gets $45 million?

That's what happens when you have the KHL card to play I guess.

And you put the team on your back and carry them into the playoffs, there is also that to consider.

5 year deal?

To convince Tkachuk to sign, the term must start and end with an 8. He’s too close to UFA to accept a shorter term contract.
