Now open this up to the old school UFC advertisers. Let's get some Condom Depot ads on an Oilers jersey.

Gross. Helmets I was fine with because who cares about a helmet. But jerseys? Yuck.

It won't be long before the logo is a 3x5 patch and the ad is the main part of the jersey, just like euro soccer.

This was inevitable as a way to generate revenue. It's sad as the jersey's are already a mess of patches as it is. I'd rather them put it on the bottom hem on the back. Every kid basically grew up with that anyways, so it's just going back to when we were kids

Pretty sure these patches won't be on the jerseys you buy, but I could be mistaken.

If it's like the NBA, the "authentic" jerseys with ads will cost even more.

That would indeed be disappointing. Maybe it will be like CFL jerseys. If you really want the patches you can add them. Why anyone would willingly buy a patch like that is another story.

Would the ads be on the retail jerseys as well?

Disappointing. We all knew it was inevitable but it’s sad to see the end of the “clean” look of an NHL jersey. I have never liked the look of jerseys with ads on them in any sport.

If you can't buy a jersey without the ad on it my days of buying jersey's are done. I'm more than willing to display my fandom, but I'm not paying to be a billboard

Something like Preparation-H or Ex-Lax would be appropriate.

Maybe it's me but I don't care that much. I tune into sports for the competition and athletes over the rags they have over their bodies. Jerseys are nice and all but secondary.

Yeah it feels a bit overblown at this point. I get it, the sanctity of the jersey etc. But I don't recall the Habs having an Adidas logo on their back when they were winning cups and its there now. They still sell.

That said, I would like the option of declining it if I am buying a new Flames jersey. Or any jersey. Scotiabank already owns half my stuff, don't need to wear their logo everywhere too.

Agreed. I would never wear a hockey jersey to anything but a hockey game to begin with, because it's tacky, but I don't particularly care what little ads are on them, especially in regards to watching the game.

I can't say I noticed the helmet ads at all.

I know slippery slope is a fallacy but this is just going to get worse.

I won't be buying a jersey that has ads on it, but I also don't want to buy a jersey that looks fundamentally different from what the actual team uses.

Will be interesting to see if jersey sales take a hit from this.

I’m going to be mildly outraged about this now and then be completely apathetic towards it by the end of the 22/23 season.
