Don't Finns and Swedes have kind of a rivalry? How would he feel being the only Finn in a sea of Swedes? lol

It would be like playing on a team full of Edmontonians....

There's no way Gaudreau to Winnipeg makes sense anyways.

Backlund, being half Finn and half Swede would bridge the gap for him.

Välimäki and Laine are both from Tampere and know each other from the Finnish U18 national team.

Valimaki isn’t Swedish.

I actually don’t see a fit for Laine on this team without Gaudreau... who is going to set Laine up? Monahan? Backlund? Tkachuk is really the only forward that is a high end play maker.

Monahan, Tkachuk and lindholm are all excellent puck distributors. Monahan in particular was actually more of a playmaker before the NHL. I think that his game would evolve in this scenario.

Bennett's not a bad passer either (runs for cover)

He is actually quite good behind the net but his cross ice passes are sometimes not the best.

Really do think Bennett is going to pop this year and get around 40 points.

Just going to be a solid warrior for us and prove that patience is key.

He is only two years older than Valimaki, no need to give up on a player before 25 and especially a powerforward.

Hard to imagine WIN taking back a flight risk as the main return.

I think it’s because every time we play them we kick their ass. You get tired being on the wrong side of a rivalry.

I have always thought Benny had great vision when given the opportunity to play with elite players; this goal has always had me wonder why he hasn’t been given a long look with a guy like Johnny or just time in the top 6 in general.

Monahan rarely misses his passes. They just aren’t as fancy. They are common sense, quick passes.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...of-free-agency

I love the Bleacher report for fake basketball trades and NBA/NFL rumors but their hockey stuff is lacking.

This is just the bloggers opinion but discusses 2 Flames trades he wants to see.

1. Gaudreau for Ekblad
2. Bennett for Kerfoot

The first one is great value for Calgary and the second is horrible. Neither will happen though

Wow Bennett for Kerfoot would be a maddening trade; not sure about the Gaudreau/Ekblad swap but it would definitely push Tanev to the third pairing and solidify the D no matter what though it will be super tough to see Johnny go if he is traded. I think Johnny still has growth.

Giordano - Ekblad
Hanifin - Andersson
Valimaki - Tanev

Gio and Tanev obviously exposed in the expansion draft.

If Johnny did more this, driving thru the middle and then to the net, all current conversations about this team change...
