It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Paul Kariya, but with his induction this weekend to the HHoF, there has been a lot of great reads and videos about him, his career, and his legacy.
Another great read/watch. I like this one way more than the TSN one personally.
Lots of great videos out there with and Teemu as well. I’m so happy to see him embrace hockey a little more, and the thought of him getting back in the game in any capacity, is amazing

It’s nice watching him and Teemu roast eachother. There’s a lot of videos of these 2 on TSN goofing off like they’re in their 20’s again. Good to see these guys back together and having fun. With the extensive damage Paul has received from concussions, good to see he’s in a good place right now.

Even with all the praise he might be one of the most underrated players of all time playing in that deadhole of Disneyland. He was amazing and him coming back to score that OT winner after getting KO'd was awesome.

I went with two of my buddies to the fan question event. He was Awesome and a really funny, down-to-earth dude. One of the fans was a cancer survivor who he had written an inspirational letter to in response to a plea of her own. He listened to her thank him for being there for her and then gave her a hug. As a survivor myself, got me right in the feels. I really wanted to ask Andreychuk a few Tampa-centric questions but didn’t get the chance. A kid from Finland asked Teemu a question in Finnish, saying “I’m not gonna give the translation.” Selanne didn’t miss a beat, replied in Finnish, also not offering a translation. Hilarious. Gino Reda was thrown a bit, but hilarious. A really fun afternoon.
Kariya was an unbelievable player... especially considering the era that he played...i could only imagine how good he would have been in today's NHL...one of my favorites back in the day with Selanne. Just a pleasure to watch
i am a Gary Suter fan, but his cross check on Kariya's jaw was cowardly and really started that downward spiral for Kariya and concussions.
its sad to hear that he doesn't remember the "Off the floor, on the board... Paul Kariya" moment... truly one of the great moments i can remember witnessing in sports... one of the all timers.
If only they would have won Game 7 it would have been truly magical

As a fan of Stevens, it's hard to watch him refusing to own up to that being a really late hit. It's like he thinks that is he owns up to any hit being dirty, his whole lagacy will be tarnished

I thought the same. He was surprisingly unapologetic. I thought he’d at least admit today that would be late or indirectly elude to it.

He spoke like he knows his legacy is tarnished. Really doesn't matter what he says now.
I loved Kariya and that goal after the hit is still one of the greatest Stanley Cup moments ever. Very sad he can't remember it.
Why is Stevens' legacy tarnished though? He played the game as per the rules at the time.

Instead of talking about Stevens and a slightly late hit that was deemed legal, the real villain of Kariya's career was Suter. Such a dirty cheap shot and the 4 game suspension was pathetically weak.

One thing that stands out to me looking at those highlights with Kariya is how he could leverage all his power into that wrist shot. Datsyuk and Crosby come to mind as similar. Somehow both heel and toe of the stick drags through on the shot. Pretty cool to see that.

That's not even the dirtiest hit of his career. If he owns up to that he's basically has to own up to being the player he was. IMO his legacy is forever tarnished as one of the dirtiest players to ever play in the NHL. Lots of men today likely suffering post career because of this guy. He was a great defenseman and one of the best of his era but he simply crossed the line far too often and makes Chris Pronger look like a choir boy in comparison.

The kind of points he would have put up in this era of hockey would have been game changing. Not that they weren't back in that day, but i could easily see him being a point and a half per game player. He did a PPG at that level back then, while not being the biggest guy back then. In this new era, he would be average size, but with his discipline to the game and his body, would have been an absolute powerhouse.
I wish he would have been able to get to 1000 games.
