I can only speak for myself, but with this convoy crap I'm shocked at how many people I've known from the past who I thought were generally bright, are in favour of this nonsense. I'm certain so many on here are in the same boat and know a half dozen people or more who support it. Here I am thinking the general population is smarter than our friends across the border, but it seems like all you have to do to gain support is to wave a flag and use "freedom" in hyperbole.

There is so little logic to this. What's more is as the weather gets better and the government naturally lifts restrictions, these idiots will claim victory, and somehow will gain supporters.

Also, Trudeau f'ed up royally by claiming the Covid defence. He should've straight out said he has no interest in meeting these yahoos, and he'd have gained many supporters. Instead he did the thing he normally does and made a convoluted statement at the wrong time and it appeared to be a cowering move in the minds of the delusional convoy. Anyway, I don't know how this ends but I'm sure the government just hope they dwindle in numbers over time.

Looks like the donation platform they switched to after GoFundMe dropped them has been hacked and a file that apparently has the names of the donors has been leaked:

Just to add to the above, the donor list looks legit. You can search by postal/zip code and I've found a couple names I recognize on there, including a Conservative Party candidate.

I am genuinely curious if you have a source for this or if it’s just an assumption?

There's a .csv file at the bottom which has the names, email addresses, postal/zip codes, and donation amounts for about 90K donors.

The problem is that Trudeau has emboldened these morons through lack of action on similar blockades. What do you expect? Of course they will employ the tactics that work, you Ottawa folk just never thought it would be brought to your door.

This is completely consistent for Trudeau who has never had the intention of governing for the whole population. Rather he prefers to simply pander to his ideological and geographic base.

This while episode highlights the dysfunction in Canada's version of democracy and our lack of a cohesion.

Is one of the donor names Theoren Fleury?
Though I doubt he's doing too well financially these days.

Not under his name. Wouldn't even put his money where his mouth is.

Over half are from the US. So that's just great.

That they make their decisions based on scientific advice?

I am genuinely curious if you believe otherwise. You think they just wing it?

Doubled down on the playbook? That is exactly what is happening. That is exactly what got us here - right wingers refusal to accept science and instead make up their own brand of bull####. What do you expect him to do? Acknowledge that COVID isn't real, and the vaccine is some sorta government control serum run on 5G towers?

Panders to his ideological and geographic base? Have you met the PPC? They are literally selling swag at the protest site in Ottawa.

Democracy? You're going to preach about democracy when protestors literally want to over throw our government because they can't go to The Keg.

Seriously. Why am I even having to show this to you?

Do you think they're arbitrarily winging it.

Anybody that left a dumb comment and their work email... I don't know what to say. So moronic.

Also no donation from Theo. Interesting.

Well you would think that the federal government would get their advice from the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada?

https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6339609

Even Tam has said we need to find a different path forward.

Canada's top doctor said today the country needs to find a more "sustainable" way to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and future variants of the virus.

Speaking to reporters at the weekly public health briefing, Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said all existing public health policies, including provincial vaccine passports, need to be "re-examined" in the coming weeks — because it's clear now that Canada and the rest of the world will be grappling with this virus for months or years to come.

"What we need to do going forward, as we emerge out of this Omicron wave, is recognize this virus is not going to disappear. We need to be able to address the ongoing presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in a more sustainable way," Tam said.

JT can listen to the science. He chooses not to.

What we need to do moving forward is to protect the vulnerable in our society. If Canada’s top Doctor says it’s time, then it’s time.
