The Good and Bad early on this season
The Good:
- Smith proves the doubters wrong and is the MVP of the season so far.
- Gaudreau returning to a point-per-game form.
- No sophomore slump for Tkachuk.
- Giordano shows no sign of slowing down.
- Bartowski has been a serviceable 6th defenseman.
The Bad:
- Ferland didn't take the #1 RW spot and run with it.
- Bennett still looking to find his game at center.
- Brouwer's bounce back season hasn't gone as well as hoped.
- No Jankowski yet.

Brouwer's been good the last few games... not worth his contract, perhaps, but he's certainly helping the team win.

Bennett! I've been a huge critic of bennett but even then I'm dissapointed I thought he'd return to a 20/50 player. Perhaps its teh coaching staffs unwillingness to try him at wing?

BAD
I want Brouwer gone as much as most around here but he hasn't looked terrible the past few games, the worst part about him is his contract but I wouldn't say his play.
Maybe Bennett will feel better without a beard but I think he needs some help figuring things out.
IMO Ferland tried to fit on the top line too well and stopped being the guy he really is. I think he needs to start hitting and shooting more and stop trying to be fancy.
GOOD
Around the league has been amazing
Those post game gifs are on point
Scorp has really stepped up with his GDT

I would delete the Brouwer comment from bad (he isn't great, but he isn't making a negative difference to the team's performance) and add lack of defensive structure resulting in too many shots/good scoring chances against.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Good:
Smith
Tkachuk is the pest this team needs
Good Gaudreau is back (except the odd dumb pass)
Good Brodie is more or less back
Hamonic has been solid
Bartkowski has been decent, him and Stone both
Defense is putting up points
The PK
Brouwer hasn't been useless for a couple games...but we'll see.
Could be better:
Hamilton has been merely okay but we've seen better from him
Bennett ...take that step bud
Ferland has been kinda crap, and I would have Janko in ahead of him right now
Team discipline (although the refs are milking it at times)
Shots against
Defensive zone breakouts

I'd add the Brodie/ Hamonic pairing to the good list.

Good: Winning against divisional teams early on and winning on the road.
Bad: They are cruising for a league high in penalties again.

I'll add to your list, if I may be so bold:
- Smith proves the doubters wrong and is the MVP of the season so far.
- Gaudreau returning to a point-per-game form.
- No sophomore slump for Tkachuk.
- Giordano shows no sign of slowing down.
- Bartowski has been a serviceable 6th defenseman.
- Monahan quietly getting the job done, as he always has. Classic boring Sean Monahan. Leads the team in +/-, 3g 3a.
- Brouwer has begun to find a role on the 4th line and has played well digging down low and being physical. Standing up for the Captain was sublime.
The Bad:
- Ferland didn't take the #1 RW spot and run with it.
- Bennett still looking to find his game at center.
- Brouwer's bounce back season hasn't gone as well as hoped. Although he's finding a spot on the 4th line, he should be a high end #2 RW.
- No Jankowski yet
- I don't like that Freddie is up over Hathaway.
- Still allowing WAY TOO MANY SHOTS AGAINST

The Flames have surrendered 57 shots in two games. I think that can still improve on that, but that’s not bad.

I am surprised that Monahan has not been included in many “Good” lists. I think he has been fantastic to start the season.
The most obvious issue is team discipline. Good lord, are the Flames ever taking a lot of penalties.

Yep I was going to say add Monahan to the good list so far. He's a slow starter sometimes but not so far this year!

Need a couple games where they allow something in that 20-24 shots against range to bring down that average a bit closer to normal.
They actually did that quite a bit last year. The goalies were just leaky as all heck.

I actually think this is as good first six games I can remember from this organization in a long time. I really can't single out a player that's been bad. Johnny is looking dangerous, the 2nd line has picked up where it left off last season, goaltending has been great, and previous slow starters like Monahan and Giordano are contributing early. I don't fault Ferland for not grabbing the 1st line RW role because he's miscast in that role. My only concerns at this point is the defensive breakdowns which have been a long time issue of this defense group but hopefully as the pairings get more time things will stabilize.
