I think Huberdeau needs line mates who can create a little bit space for him.
He is a passer and looks like very good give and go type plays. When I watch him he seems always tries to make hardest pass instead of simple plays, and he is almost always in pressure in O zone when he gets the puck.
I wondered how come Panarin can have lots of space and can hold the puck and skate around and find best decision with puck, but Huberdeau is usually pinned to wall or has a no space to do something in O zone.

Panarin has a rocket and can score from distance.

I think Huberdeau has looked better with Pelletier than with anyone this year at 5 on 5

I think the budding mentor/mentee relationship has been good for both of them.
*puts on Lucy from Peanuts armchair psychology hat*
I think it's let Jonathan focus on that and also affirm for himself that he still knows his stuff and can have those 'quick wins' feeling to build on that have been lacking this year. Reading between the lines based on comments from Loubardias and others the trade really seemed to do a number on him and being put into the Sutter system probably compounded things, not to mention whatever else is going on in his life. It sucks for everyone it may take a whole season for Jonathan to get his groove back, but I think he will.
(why yes, I am projecting about my own burn out and mental health )

No they didn’t. The pick is lottery protected.

Our power play being complete hogwash certainly doesn’t help things out for Huby.
21/22: 5 PP goals, 33 PP assists
22/23: 3 PP goals, 8 PP assists (projects to 5 PP goals, 13 PP assists).
He’s on pace for 20 less points on the PP this season. That’s huge.
Outside of that though, Huby and Lindy don’t seem to have found any real chemistry which is a major bummer. That was really our only shot at getting close to having a strong #1 line - as those are really the only two players who have consistently produced at that level in recent years. There could be an argument for Kadri for sure (but not really, as last year was an outlier for him) and I’d certainly like to see Huberdeau - Kadri - Lindholm at some stage, but the coaches seem dead set on having Lindy play C.

I don't think there is anyway whoever ends up with the Bedard pick trades it for McDavid. Bedard is likely to be a better player, probably within the first 3 years, is definitely a better person, and will be significantly cheaper for at least the next 5 years.
That would be the stupidest trade ever.

well technically it's top 12 protected, 13-16 still gives them a slim chance (Lotto Max odds)

I don't think Bedard is likely to be a better player within 3 years.
In fact he likely doesn't reach McDavid's peak in his career. He's fantastic but I think he's a step below McDavid.
I agree with the rest of your post.

Bedard might not put up the points that McDavid does, but that's because he actually knows where both ends of the ice is. Better player does not necessarily just mean "more points".
As for better person, go watch his World Jr. interview again.

Yeah, it's top 12 protected. But, if it's 13-16 and they lose the lottery, I still consider that to be a "lottery pick". Ambiguous choice of words on my part.

That's not correct. If NYI ends up at 13-16, wins the lottery and moved up to 3-6 it also slides. Van can't get higher than the 13th pick.

Van doesn't get the pick until after the lottery is concluded, determining it 13-16, therefore it's not a lottery pick.

I really hope BT pulls something out of his hat and picks up a player that no one is talking about. For example Filip Forsberg. I would gladly give up a bunch of assets to get a player like that!

I think we should trade anyone that has value, and then throw the kitchen sink at someone like Dubois this offseason. Build around a french core and a swedish core.

A lot of Lindy's goals on the powerplay that I recall came from passes from behind the net to him in the high slot. So, for example, Tkachuk would depart his net front, go behind the net and pass out to an open Lindholm. That's not Huberdeau's spot and no one else is making that pass.
Huberdeau has made a lot of passes to ther slot from LW on the powerplay, but the problem is it's still short side and the goal has it covered, plus the recipient hasn't created any space.

We would need a "Erat" type player. And on the Flames that's probably Mangi.

I was just going to post that...they don't decide if Vancouver gets the pick until after the lottery happens
so no its not a lottery pick
Islanders look like they could track down the Pens or Caps anyway IMO...first two games with Horvat looked pretty good
