Practice notes Feb 11. Neal at the dentist
Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
#Flames practicing in Tampa. James Neal is at the dentist and is only player missing. For what it’s worth, David Rittich is in starter’s net. #CGYvsTBL

Good to see Rittich is still getting the call after a couple of shaky starts. I could see him having a bounce back game and stealing the show like the last two goalies we played against
Go Flames Go!

I think the Flames have a starting goalie plan penciled in for the rest of the season and won't step away from it unless someone is hurt or there is a real stumble.

i think you have to roll with rittich....while the Leivo goal wasn't good, he made a bunch of good saves that game i thought...
game should have been a runaway for Calgary except for the play of Markstrom...

I assume all NHL players needing dental work go with implants these days?

Or just false teeth until they are done playing.

What may have happened to neal is what happened to Keith Tkachuk.
Keith ended up having his teeth replaced, then knocked out again. The second time ended up breaking part of his upper mandible from where the false teeth were attached.
After he retired it was like a 2-3 year process to have his teeth fixed properly, including a bone graft for his mouth taken from his hip.
Absolutely brutal stuff these guys go through.

I understood the teeth Neal lost were already implants.

I thought the 2nd was weak and the 3rd goal was something he should have had.
However the Flames need to roll with their starter....

Wasn't Rittich's best game, and I really didn't like the second goal, but surprised at everyone who thinks the 3rd goal was a bad goal. You give Brock Boeser that much time in that spot with the release and velocity he gets on the puck and he puts it right inside the far post, how do you imagine he "should have had that"?

I totally agree.
I thought the second goal was bad, but was sitting right behind Rittich when Boeser scored. Gaudreau in the third period took a shot with less time on an identical setup from the same spot that Markstrom stopped, and it was easily the save of the game.
It's not that the shot was unstoppable, but it was one that would have required an utterly spectacular save like what Markstrom later delivered.

I’m surprised there wasn’t more chat about Neals slow motion teeth fireworks in the PGT. Definitely one of the craziest things I’ve seen while watching hockey. It looked like he lost like six or seven??

It is tough to know how many of those were individual teeth, or fragments from the same teeth. They posted a picture on the jumbotron after the refs had collected the fragments and it looked like one intact tooth, and two or three in pieces.

It's so easy to identify the guys you don't enjoy playing against in division 6 beer league hockey when the topic of cages comes up.
