the thing with Luthor though is doesn't he always end up falling back to using kryptonite against Superman? i get that he's a maniacal genius, but no matter which new ingenious method he uses kryptonite, it's still the same boring mechanic
Disagree.
Superman's other "weakness" is that he follows a strict moral code and follows the law. Luthor, on the other hand, is ruthless.
Luthor has been able to gain the upper hand on Superman on several occassions by manipulating the legal, political, emotional, or moral situations. The guy was president of the USA for a while.
*my brain finally processes that all of them are in a movie about giant awesome robots fighting giant monsters, and it's NOT Japanese anime*
it's like Guillermo Del Toro has mashed my childhood and adulthood into one big ball of epic. i could take this movie, go back in time, sit down and watch it with my 10 year old self, and we would sit there giggling like ######s and hi-fiveing for 90 minutes
in other words, ya i guess i'll go check it out

If it's like Neon Genesis, then that's fine. As long as it doesn't end the same stupid way.
It wont be like Neon Genesis look at the trailer. The best part of that series is that the human robot weapons are actually freaking scary and crazy. In this movie they're just a bunch of hyped up voltrons.

I did watch the trailer. I also started a thread on this movie so I am aware of the differences. The idea is similar to Neon Genesis (but I agree, not Neon Genesis clone). As long as it doesn't end like Neon Genesis, I should be fine with it.
Besides, I think there's a lot the trailer didn't show. If you go to the pacific rim site, there are some battle moves outlined, giving us some idea on how the fight with the monsters are going to go. Seems a lot of martial arts are applied.

Del Toro, monstrous monsters emerging out of an inter-dimensional rift at the bottom of the Pacific . . . this seemed right up my alley until I saw the giant robots. I guess I was just never one for the giant robots fighting monsters thing as a kid. Too bad.

Well this looks terrible. I also find it funny that reports say Mark Walhberg put on 40 lbs in 2 months for the role. He ate up to 10 meals a day and pumped iron all day.
So he put on maybe 4 pounds of muscle and 36 pounds of fat for the role. *cough* STEROIDS *cough*
They even have the balls to say "This is a true story" and not "Based on a true story". It is a Michael film.
The script could be transcript of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and it would have four mechs blowing each other up and he would say it is "based on a true story".

imagine the opening day crowds for this movie. Affliction t-shirts and spray tan for as far as the eye can see
