There are a couple of breweries in Turner Valley that we should head to after the ride.

There is your problem. Ever since M.E.C bought raceface the quility has diminished. I know this will sound like a douchy bike mechanic thing to say but spend the money on a cris king or hope. Gonfornthe latter and reapnthe benefits. Both are very expensive at first but it a spend money now or later type thing. Spend the 200 on a hope now and continually ride it without delay or keep buying the mec quality race face and have far more downtime fixing it multiple times.
Basically it comes down to department store vs bike shop quality. Which is what race face is now
Edit:: my info on M.E.Cs investment into Raceface is way out to date. See bossy22 post for actual info

True and falsebat thensame time. I have a 2 customers that are rather large that have had thier cris kinga last 17 years while those that go for the standard shimano hollotech only last s season or 2. My customers that do get hopes tho have lasted similar to tje kings.
In the end of thimgs you usually end up spending the sam amount but its a matter of $ now vs a dollar later. The dollar now folks seem to get more riding time vs the I'll replace it as I go folks.

Fox Factory owns Race Face. They bought Race Face and Easton in 2014. Race Face still makes quality products. Just don't buy the lower end.

I'm not buying it is frostbike worthy. I'll be digging out my warmer gear, but the studded tires are staying in thew shed.

Looking at accuweather it appears to already be getting better forecast wise. Initially it was ~2cm on Thursday, now showing trace to 1cm overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

Ya, just looked out the window. Sigh. Poor planning. This could be a chilly one riding into the cruel north wind.

The ride home yesterday was nicer than i thought it would be when i pushed away from my desk.
Got beside a guy on an e-bike yesterday at Heritage and Fairmont Drive. I was able to stay in front of him thru acadia and along the bow river pathway until the hill by the baseball diamonds along the bow river in the SE. Was disappointing to look at my strava when i got home an only had one achievement - a 2nd best time (3 seconds off of my best time) along quarry park.

Riding home in the wet yesterday wasn't as bad as it could have been. I had my long sleeve jersey, kind of saved my bacon.
Fuzz, get some leg warmers to put on under your shorts, makes the ride bearable.

Question for all the winter riders, do you ride with studded tires? Are they worth it? My commute will be going from 5km to 15km almost entirely on the bow river path sometime later this fall or early winter. I never used studded tires before when I rode in winter.

They have saved me from falling a couple of times for sure. I ran with a studded on the front only. it slows you down for sure, but they definitely give more grip on icy/slick bits.
