Default Question regarding a PVR

We have Telus TV and the Optik PVR.
My question is this: Can we take the PVR to our place in Phoenix and watch shows recorded on it while down there?
Our place doesn't have internet or cable - not worth getting with how little time we get to use it right now - so I'm wondering if bringing a PVR would be like bringing a hard drive that we can just plug into the TV there and watch all the shows we never have time to watch here.

I doubt it will work, but easy to try - just unplug it from your input cable and see if you can access the PVR.

I think you have to be on telus internet to keep the box active.

What an obvious way to test. Thanks.

I think our next door neighbours have something setup with shaw for when they are in Phoenix for the winter. It may involve a dish.

Bell PVRs will work without having a satellite connection. However like Duffman said, I would suggest getting Shaw satellite at home, and then setting up a dish in Phoenix. Then just bring your receiver back and forth.

Yeah Bell receivers are no longer much good deep south of the border as their new satellites concentrate their footprint on Canada. It gives us better signal quality.

The thing is I hear Shaw satellite will also go that route in the next couple of years.
