Either is about $4-6, plus a couple bucks shipping.

I use the 25 foot w/ audio whenever I need to hook a pc/laptop to my TV that doesn't have HDMI output and have never noticed any issues. I also got a 3.5mm Stereo Female to 2RCA Male so I could route the sound through my receiver. Depending on the distance you need to go to plug into the receiver, you might need a stereo plug extension as well.

All told you could spend less than $10-12 including shipping.
I cannot find an audio outlet on the laptop for the life of me - is it possible that it just has video outs? I did notice that it has S-video... is it better to use that to hook up to the TV?

What model of laptop? Should at the very least have a 3.5mm stereo jack. Probably on the sides with your USB ports, or more rarely on the front.

S-Video will work and can be slightly better than VGA, but not by a huge margin. Google/Wikipedia will give you a more definitive answer on that. The biggest thing is there are 2 or 3 types of S-video. 4, 7 and I think maybe a 9 pin. You still would need to have an audio cable, unless you wanted to use your laptop audio.

If you have the same type on both your TV and your Laptop then you are golden. IIRC converting from one type to another is a bit of a PITA.

It's an HP Pavillion 6500 or something like that. I'll search again with a magnifying glass tonight. Many thanks!

Google images leads me to believe that this is your laptop, so the microphone, headphone jacks are probably on the front.

It’s fun to bash on Vista but it’s without blame here.
Unless Vista sucking is why Vlad thought his PC needed a Tune Up in the first place.
