Seems like this would signal the Devils giving up on this season. The Markstrom trade was unlikely to start the day, and it's nearly impossible to imagine now.

I doubt they give up another 1st...but the Montreal 2nd they have will be around 39/40...so pretty close in value to a late 1st.

My guess will be the 2024 MTL 2nd, and 2025 WPG 3rd which ends up being pretty close to the value of a late 1st.

He's got a rep as a player who produces offense no matter where he plays. Those guys are worth more as rentals.

Maybe! Or maybe Fitzgerald will still want to get Markstrom ahead of the summer when more teams will want to look into addressing their net after a disappointing exit from the playoffs due partly to goaltending.

Desperation for what? They're first in the conference even after two weeks of being awful while showing signs of being less awful.

More likely they stand pat than make a desperation move.

Still surprising to me that the devils thought they were done their rebuild. It will take them another 3-4 years to find a goalie if they don’t get off their wallet.
