I haven't been following it besides when its hoisted on me by social media algorithms... but I suspect people who've just followed this on social media are going to be angered by the verdict as they have no idea what the lawsuit actually is.

I was surprised that this was a thing, but in Australia and the UK its a thing defined as a violent attack with bottle or glassware. I guess they have a lot of bar brawls where people smash the bottle and stab their victims. So I assume its about the finger thing.

It was very interesting to hear the progression of the yes/no test questions which the jury had to rule on in order to rule on defamation in each count. Very clear and logical.

What's the point of awarding $5M if there is a state cap of$350k?

What matters for Depp is he clearly won in the court of public opinion and hollywood society who is going to welcome him back.

Yeah this case was mission accomplished as Depp went from Hollywood outcast to back in business. Heard on the other hand is going to be a tough sell to producers going forward as any career she has left is likely in B movies.

I’d say she’s done in Hollywood period.
Maybe an odd indie film or TV movie but I would wager she sees no big pictures anymore.

Sets precedence for similar acts in the future. Each state would have different maximums but this sets 5$ million as precedence for future similar suits

I wouldn't be so sure about Amber's career being done. I'm sure there are a lot of sympathetic people still on her side in Hollywood and in the press. The fact she was awarded damages against Johnny helps her out.

The damages she was awarded were against Johnny's camp (his lawyer called her abuse allegations a 'hoax', and you can't do that unless you have evidence). She however, is on recording talking about how she 'only' hit him in that one instance. Then she taunted him about how he's a man and no one would believe he was a victim of DV. Johnny may not be 100% innocent in this whole thing, and this was a toxic relationship through and through, but he is absolutely a victim of physical and emotional DV.

After we finally saw a reckoning of abusers in Hollywood with great thanks to the Me Too movement, it would be completely hypocritical to give her a pass - she's a textbook abuser.
