A VTOL sounds like a very inefficient way to gain altitude. The battery is about the same size as a Tesla one. Harbour Air's Magnix battery is 200kWh and provides a range of about 100 miles.

Interesting.

They're small though, carrying up to 4 passengers, at a range of 60 miles at 150kmh.

They seem more like a glorified helicopter in terms of practicality.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/10/unit...lity-spac.html

Now if they could fill the 35-50 seat niche which is sorely missing an air frame, then I'd be ecstatic. Canada is a country that really could benefit from a 50 seat aircraft as a lot of regional airports could use frequency, but with planes starting at 75/80 seats they're just too big to justify 3-5 flights a day to smaller centres.

I think it'll be awhile before electric can move anything bigger than 10 people. The weight penalty as you add batteries adds up really quick. The seem suited to short regional flights, but you do have to build in extra charging time. It may not be much of an issue if you are just using it for 4 or so flights a day.

Great timing since the A319 that wore this livery previously was retired last month:

One of my favorite liveries, It's nice to see it carry on.

A little bit of positivity. Sounds like WestJet and Suncor have re-upped their charter contract. Nice for WS as it provides some steady cash flow.

Excellent thread from a former 777 pilot on what the crew/aircraft systems were doing in a situation like this:

Too funny.

Makes you realize that an “aviation analyst” that shows up on the news for these things, is much like Eric Francis giving an insightful explanation on Flames strategy.

WestJet cancels orders for 15 737 Max aircraft.

Meanwhile Southwest reportedly ordering up to an additional 100. Given everyone who has bailed on them they conceivably could get them pretty quickly if they take over another airline's orders.
