Islanders, Leafs hook up for nine-player deal
UNIONDALE | The New York Islanders traded defenseman
Tyson Barrie and forwards
Sven Baertschi,
Richard Panik, and
Nikita Gusev to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. The Maple Leafs also received the Islanders' 2021 third-round draft pick.
In return, the Islanders received defenseman
Jack Johnson and forwards
Josh Bailey,
Vincent Hinostroza,
Wayne Simmonds, and
Tobias Rieder.
"Tyson played a good game for us today, but we felt that we needed to trade him for a scoring forward," said GM TheScorpion. "Josh Bailey is a player who we're familiar with. We look forward to seeing him play with Charlie Coyle and Cam Atkinson on our top line."
The Islanders cleared much-needed cheese space by taking on multiple big contracts in this deal.
"Yeah, we have a deal coming down the pipeline, and in advance of that, I'd like to thank Bryan Little for his time on Long Island," said TheScorpion. "You'll see soon who else we've acquired.
"Oh, and thanks to Quigz17 for the deal," he added.
Islanders projected lineup:
Josh Bailey - Charlie Coyle - Cam Atkinson
Vinnie Hinostroza - Vladislav Namestnikov - Wayne Simmonds
Conor Sheary - Johan Larsson - Bryan Rust
Tyler Motte - Colby Cave - Kyle Okposo
Tobias Rieder
Johnny Boychuk - Jason Demers
