I don't know the stats but it seems like the ratio of male to female in this city is higher than a lot of other places. Or maybe because there's a lot of money in this city they are snobbier. Or maybe a combination of the above.
It's likely one of two things:

1) The copious amounts of alcohol always in their system

or

2) They are used to the quality of Edmonton men and any man that comes from outside the city seems like a significant upgrade to them.

To me that seems so much easier. Find a website that caters to your interests - for example I am sure I have seen banners for fitness singles, and craft an accurate ad that includes proper grammar and to me it should then get easy or am I missing something
I'm 48 and have been trying the internet for a while now, been separated 5 yrs now. I hate it. i really haven't figured out what to do and have gotten advice from several women friends. It sounds easy but it is way more complicated than it looks, or at least that's my experience.

I don't know. I've always found Edmontonians friendlier in general.

Edmontonians are friendly are in general I have found, they remind me they way Calgarians used to be 20 years ago. Seems to be easier to approach new folks both in business life and casually.

From what I've noticed, there is a lot less stress up here and what seems to be a happier group of people - even with the worse weather and chronic Coiler problem.

As others have said, do things that interest you. Join groups.
That way, you enjoy it regardless.
Can include volunteering, but not required.
I tried simply reeking of desperation for a while too. Did not work for me but ymmv.
Also, while not currently in vogue, I started going to church regularly. Church shopping. A number of different ones. Do not immediately rule out this potential gold mine.

Okay. That's weird. Some guy came up to me at our Xmas party and asked me how long I have been into bow ties. In this new context, maybe it was a pick up attempt? I don't know anymore. Do bow ties signal availability or something?

Unless it's a gala, suits at parties are off-putting. Makes me think of a bunch of stockbroker bros showed up uninvited.

It's possible he just wanted to talk about the bow tie. 2018 sure is a crazy year.

I am bad at small talk. It's hard for me to imagine somebody wanting to talk about bow ties as a conversation, and I just don't know what to say about them besides, "uh, I put it on for a party once a year and... that's all I got on this topic". Maybe he thought I was a Tucker Carlson fan. God dammit, Tucker Carlson, you've ruined the bow tie for everybody!

Its interesting because I've heard this before and while its not entirely incorrect it might have a lot more to do with demographics, especially depending on where you are.

Calgary has a lot more Professional and Educated women whose standards are a lot higher ad some might conceive of this as 'snobby' or 'standoffish.'

These are the type of women who probably wouldnt appreciate being hit on in a bar.

It shows manual dexterity, which is super important.

I beg to differ. My wife came to talk to my group specifically because we were in suits. We were just having a nice time to ourselves, she came to me.

Looking crisp is going to work for you a lot more than it will work against you. I wore a tux to a bar recently and it made a noticeable difference in how women would react to me. I'm not looking but I'm not above a little flattery.
