Using words like "Possibly" in a situation like this before anyone actually has any news is just fishing for Twitter reactions.

Peter's an absolute savage in the post game presser. I haven't liked a coach this much in a long long time. Lots of skepticism when he was hired, but it looks like Treliving absolutely nailed it.

Hate to break up the top line but this is a decent top 6

Johnny - Monny - Neal
Bennett - Lindholm - Chucky

How about a Tkachuk-Bennett-Neal line. I think you have to ride the first line with the way it's playing.

Oh for f sake

Monahan shouldn’t have dished for an empty netter because maybe later someone smokes Backlund?

Respectfully, piss off

I was in the media lounge talking with the coach after the game. Peters told us Backlund is in the quiet room, but nothing more than that so I don't think Shanno could know anything more.

With Backlund likely out for at least the weekend, and Lomberg probably getting suspended, the Flames will need an extra body or two. Expect a call up to happen soon.

Yeah, in some butterfly effect way someone could say that Monahan not burying the EN led to Backlund's injury, but in no way is he realistically responsible.

before the season and success of the top line, that would have been how I envisioned the top two lines. I think Neal needs a playmaker like Gaudreau to set him up, and Lindholm gives Tkachuk a more offensive centerman

temporarily splitting the top line, if Backs is out, gives some balance to the top 6, plus they will still have PP time together

line juggling like this probably doesn't happen until a losing streak or run of bad hockey

Let’s take the conference lead Saturday and then pot 12 Sunday, and then switch the lines up.
Peters already pushes up Neal to play with JG a few times each period, mainly to get Neal going, but may as well keep that up. Chances are the bench may be short vs the Preds anyways, so just run with status quo with the top line setup.

Hopefully the guys learn from this and finish the play. I have seen games where not putting the empty netter in backfired. That said, Peters is a smart coach and seems to be on top of these things. Hopefully Backlund is back soon enough.

Looking forward to seeing who the call ups may be, knowing what other guys can bring should we need them is positive!

IF Backlund has to miss time, it will be interesting to see how the Flames look without him. It was a potentiality discussed at length here when he was unsigned last season.

If Backs is out this will be a true test of the depth for the team. Backlund does so much of the heavy lifting for the Flames. From puck possession to the defensive matches, in addition to chipping in offensively. He's not easily replaceable so let's hope the team can make up for his absence with a group effort.

He is an integral part of this machine.

Yeah missing 2/3rds of the 3m line will be a test, especially since that's the line that eats up a lot of tough minutes and matchups

Hopefully it’s nothing serious. I’ve thought Backlund might be playing injured already though, seems like he is hesitating to shoot the puck. Just speculating. Either way I think we have enough depth to let him get healthy.

Time to unleash:

Tkachuk-Bennet-Neal

I have wondered about this.

Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm is working. Actually deadly
But Lindholm is really, really good.

Last year, the dumb coach stuck with top line + Ferly and 3M, arguably to a fault. Bottom 6 was all struggling and he just mixed and matched within those 6.

Is there an *even better” Flames lineup that mixes Lindholm down, because it doesn’t seem to be on the table

I wouldn't mind seeing this for at least a game. Chucky and Bennett are both pests, and Neal can be a bit on the ornery side as well. This line would drive the opposition crazy. There's a lot of skill there too.
