Default Tom Wilson re-signs with Caps - 6 years AAV $5.17m

This seems excessive lol

Quote:
The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward Tom Wilson to a six-year contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today. Wilson's contract will carry an average annual value of $5.17 million.

"Tom is an invaluable member of our team and we are pleased that he will play a great part in our foreseeable future," said MacLellan. "Tom is a unique player in this League. At 24 years of age, he has an impressive amount of experience and we believe that he will only continue to grow and improve as a player. With his ability to play in virtually any game situation, teams need players like Tom in order to succeed in the NHL."

This seems like a horrible contract, how does he possibly get this much money and term? Still young so he could get better but his career high is 35 points while playing with Ovi.

Oh wow, that's quite the salary there. Good player but not sure if he's $5M+ good? Not yet at least...

He's 24 years old and has played 5 full NHL seasons. He may have a tiny bit of room to grow, but at this point it's probably safe to say he's about hit his ceiling.

Caps have been high on this guy pretty much since the day they drafted him. Was on a 58pts pace in the playoffs this year. Guess they think he can continue that pace?

Signing a grinder to a huge deal because of a good playoff run always works out, right?

Big contract after a decent playoffs for a very overrated depth player.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the new David Clarkson.

Yeah, there's no way Ferland comes back here without a contract of 3.5-4m now. Can even be higher if he has a good year with Carolina.

Wilson is good at what his role is, but that role is not worth 5.17m.

Wow. That's a little rich for that type of player. Makes more than Lindholm and almost as much as Backlund

I feel like this amount should give you two Tom Wilsons

A contract worse than Milan Lucic's? I think so.

That's a lot to pay for "grit", questionable hits and production on par with Brouwer.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
