I know the reasoning I just don’t see the results, offensively or defensively.

Backlund isn’t making huge defensive plays or anything, if anything I notice him floating more often than not.

I see the reasoning for putting Backlund on the line, but like you said, he is not doing anything on it. Put him back to 3rd line center. Like i said in another thread , put Ryan on the RW.

Good call.

I’ve been wanting them to try Ryan with those 2 for awhile now.

Johnny and Ryan seem to have chemistry every time they manage to play together.

They are too rigid and are forcing the Lucic-Ryan pairing.

Mix up the lines it isn’t working:

Tkachuk-Lindholm-Dube
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ryan
Bennett-Backlund-Mangiapane
Lucic-Janko/Rieder/Rinaldo

I hear what folks are saying. Another forward would help JG/SM. That line needs a strong north/south harder nose guy to be F1 in the corners first, help cycle, and dig the puck out. They seem to need that more than another goal scorer. Like Coleman.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but is the consensus that nobody available via trade is anybody who'd move the needle for this team?

Assuming this is, in fact, the case, we should probably refrain from moving out any significant futures.

Gerard Gallant doesn't cost futures, does he? Vegas fired him, do we have to get permission to speak with him, or toss them a pick?

Hiring Gallant is going to have a far greater impact on this team than any one acquisition they can make between now and the deadline. I can understand the team wanting to finish the season with Ward, but they couldn't have imagined a coach of this calibre would be available in January.

Tre's got a lot of thinking to do over the next 10 days.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I'd still like to see the Flames make a deal for Kapanen by getting rid of a pending UFA on D that would re-sign in Toronto.

Would also like to acquire Toffoli as a rental. I think those two moves wouldnt hurt us long term and help short term and long term.

Watching TO tonight they are in desperate need of d-men. Not sure how we didn't score 5 on them the other night? Oh wait , i do know that answer.

I would call them up and say pick one of Brodie or Hamonic.

Just make a splash. This team needs an organ transplant of some kind. As a whole it looks lethargic.

I think many people here would jump for joy at a Brodie/Hamonic for Kapanen deal but I think the Leafs want more due to the contract situation.

Does anyone think 1 goal in 3 games has made the price for a top 6 forward go down?

They would and flames should add.If the rumours are true that flames would give up a 2nd and prospect for Toffoli, they should give that 2nd and prospect along with a dman to TO instead and take Kapanen. I personaly think a 2nd and prospect for Toffoli is a waste and i rather they overpaid for someone like Kapanen.

Any chance Vegas moves Tuch who is struggling mightily?

Bennett+Brodie for Tuch+Reeves?

Get the top 6 player who is 23 and signed for 6 more years. Also replace Bennett’s grit with Reeves and have Reeves and Lucic goon it up in the playoffs

???

Anyone that adjusts the price based on 3 games is stupid.

I would love to get Tuch, but i don't think Vegas is ready to get rid of him.

Easier said then done. With teams like LA, detroit,Devils, ect all ready out of it, they are really in no rush to sell their players yet. Take LA for example with Toffoli, they pretty much know they can get a 2nd for him. They are better off waiting to closer to deadline and see if anybody is desperate enough to offer up a late 1st. If not, they got the 2nd round pick in their pocket.

The only teams i can see right now doing a hockey trade at this time of year is TO, and maybe Vegas. Unfortunatly both teams are at max of salary cap and that makes it even harder.
