Default LeBrun: Flames have interest in Toffoli (and other RHS top 6 forwards)

per LeBrun on insider trading:

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...-leafs~1878143

Flames looking for a top 6 forward
key criteria is that the forward is a RHS
LeBrun thinks there is definite interest in Toffoli

LeBrun usually has the inside track on the Flames. I'm going to put the cart before the horse, jump on this bandwagon etc.

Makes a lot of sense.

I know he's not a perfect player, but you're just not going to find those players available via trade.

He's 27, which is the right age to target. He's averaged 23 goals the last 6 years, including a high of 31. Played 2 years with Monahan on the 67s too.

Pending UFA though, which doesn't exactly fit with what we've heard about targeting players with term.

Yeah. But targeting term is dumb.

I want hungry players. I want players looking to cash in on major performances. If the flames move a good pick and get to the conference final or the cup final or are hoisting the goddamned thing, will anyone care if toffoli turns around and signs in Columbus or St Louis or Montreal?

I want a guy looking to show he's a playoff performer so that 7 weeks later he can make an extra couple million per.

I want James Neal in the last year of his contract, not the first.

Preoccupation with term is dumb and I hope it's not a major obstacle for the flames.

I believe Toffoli would fit nicely on this this team but I believe there are a number of RHS RWs that would fit on this team. Go get one Brad. Toffoli will do fine.

It's been a while since Treliving has made a notable acquisition via trade. We're a couple offseasons removed from the last good one now. Good RFA work, good asset management in the meantime, but it's time to show some trading chops again.

If he can get Toffoli and re sign him to a deal under 6m a season. I'd be ok with that.

Toffoli is pretty one dimensional. I’d rather have save the draft pick and cap space for a better option.

Like who though?

The players available via trade are going to be 1 dimensional, or else cost you a piece of the core.

If you give anything near 6M a season for Toffoli you are going to seriously regret it. Anything over 4.5 is an overpay.

If he could extend Tofolli for Lindholm/Hanifin/Rasmus money, then that's acceptable. Nothing above 5M though.

Hes about the same as Frolik production wise outside of this year and while having way more offensive zone starts. I don't know if id give him as much as Backlund on a contract even.

I think you could get Toffoli to sign for 4 or, 4.5 on a one year show me deal. Then if he returns to his 30 goal form you can bust out the big bucks.

He’ll take at least 5 years, and that’s a contract I would avoid.

When did Frolik score 30 goals?

Really? So you are his agent? How could you possibly know this otherwise?
